We always keep Valentine’s Day pretty low-key around here. I think both of us have this sentiment that it’s a made up holiday, but it’s still nice to set aside time just for the two of us. This year we’re going to hole up in a cute cabin in the Cascades and snuggle around the fireplace. I’m planning to cook an amazing dinner for the two of us, so I decided to test out a Valentine’s Day spin on one of my favorite cocktails, the French 75. Are you a meals person or a snacker? I’m definitely the latter, always grazing on small bites throughout the day. Now that I’ve got a new studio complete with a fridge, I’ve been keeping it stocks with snacks so I don’t crash. Protein and fresh veggies really do the trick and lately I’m loving these veggie sushi rolls that we whipped up. The eggs provide tons of protein, while the veggies and nuts provide the perfect crunchy bite that I always seem to crave (I’m more into savory flavors than sweet). Confession: I don’t know what this cocktail recipe tastes like with the whiskey. The truth is that I’m attempting to go the entire month of January without drinking (aka Drynuary), so I could only taste test this one as a mocktail! Oops… but let’s be real here, whiskey just makes everything better. I knew I wanted to share a healthy cocktail with you guys this month, so we combined the delicious citrus flavor of pomelo with the effervescence and deliciously sour taste of kombucha. Even if you’re taking the month off from booze, this recipe is heavenly.
