edgy nail art tutorial

Ever since I got my most recent tattoos, I feel the need to take extra special care of my tootsies. With my schedule, I often don’t have time to spend at a salon, so I veer towards an at-home pedi frequently (especially during my weekend Netflix marathons…). Some of my favorite essentials: lavender scrub, a hearty pumice stone, nail files, and some quality nail polishes such the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure collection. This time I wanted to do something to match my recent tattoos, both in color and edginess, but still fairly simple because I’m not exactly Picasso over here.

I turned to my trusted friend, washi tape to help me get a geometric nail art design. Then, I picked my favorite bold and bright hues from Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure collection: Kook a Mango and Wine Not (I use Plum’s the Word on my hands!).

To start, make sure your feet are freshly scrubbed with nails trimmed and filed. I love to treat my feet to a good soak in bath salts, especially with dried lavender, then to attack any calluses with a pumice stone.

  1. Paint all nails with the lightest color. In this case, I used Kook a Mango. Be sure to let the polish cure and dry completely before moving on to the next step.
  2. Carefully apply washi tape across the nail, ensuring that you seal the corners well.
  3. Apply the second color. I used two coats to ensure deep, rich color and full coverage of the base color.
  4. Once the second color has dried and cured, carefully remove the washi tape… and voila!

Plus, receive a free Sally Hansen Salon Manicure nail polish when you buy U by Kotex at Target. Being real with you here, I like this brand because the packaging is graphic and bold… so much that so that I’m not afraid to keep them out on my bathroom vanity! I keep my U by Kotex in an old candleholder. (Offer available in all Target stores 12/29/13 – 2/22/14.)
