Did you guys know October is Fair Trade Month? (don’t worry, me neither!). I’ve always loved supporting ethically produced goods, so I was very excited to find out about this. In a time of the year so completely saturated by consumerism, it’s really nice to take a breather to celebrate Fair Trade by uniting ethically-minded consumers, awesome retailers, and some of the best brands out there.
I’ve been drinking Numi Organic Tea and eating LÄRABARs long before I knew I was supporting equal wages and protecting the environment. I just knew they were good (damn good, actually). But this month when I restock on my turmeric tea and peanut butter chocolate chip bars, I’ll be doing my part and celebrating products that are good for people and the planet.
If you’re wondering how to ‘celebrate’ Fair Trade Month, don’t worry, it’s easy. Just swap out some of your normal grocery list items for a Fair Trade Certified alternative or try something new, like this truRoots quinoa. It’s so simple to cook up a bowl for dinner or toss in with your morning smoothie for a healthy boost.
I don’t know if you know this yet, but I have a serious sweet tooth, so when I saw all the fair trade treats there are I was beyond excited. When it comes to chocolate, I mean business and won’t settle for low-quality cocoa. Seeing a fair trade label makes things easy, I know it’s going to be responsibly harvested and of the highest quality.
My favorite so far? barkTHINS, these slivers of fair trade dark chocolate are packed with non-GMO ingredients like pretzels, pumpkin seeds, almonds and a hint of sea salt. Also, I’m loving Sunspire‘s bittersweet chocolate chips — can’t wait to use them in my holiday cookies.
When it comes to clothes, style is (obviously) super important to me. That’s why I was so excited to see find out about Patagonia! They’re the first major outdoor clothing company to offer Fair Trade Certified apparel. I love the criss-cross back on this top and can’t wait to work out in it.
For this post I received products to review from Fair Trade USA. All opinions are my own and always will be! Thanks for supporting content that keeps Jojotastic going.
