I can’t believe we’re already halfway through the 12 Makers of Christmas series! So far we’ve gotten to know amazing jewelers, leather workers, learned about kids wear designers, candlemakers and so many other talented folks. Today’s maker is a master of yet another craft. Janelle Pietrzak of all roads design is an incredible weaver who combines her textile skill sets to create one of a kind pieces.

tell us a bit about what you do – your process, your materials, what inspires and drives you.
I am a textile artist living in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles. The mountains and nature around me motivate my work. I am most inspired by trips to the hardware store, ropes and twines from global markets and weekend road trips.

what is your favorite holiday tradition?
My boyfriend and I have a newish holiday routine that I think is becoming my favorite holiday tradition. Instead of gifts, we plan a holiday road trip. This year we are taking a family trip to the Grand Canyon and to Arcosanti in Arizona. We go to off-beat places so there usually not much holiday traffic.
what’s your favorite gift to give?
Something that I made.

how do you maintain your creative process through the hectic holiday season?
I refer to my sketchbook of ideas…I try to write everything down, so then later when I need extra inspiration, I refer to old notes.
any resolutions for the new year?
Keep growing my business, defining my brand and more travel.
