STYLE // alternatives to the little black dress + Shoe Carnival

This is *the* time of year to dazzle at all of those holiday parties!

I definitely saved the best for last in my series with Shoe Carnival… alternatives to the LBD! This is the time of year to dazzle at all of those holiday parties, but I feel like it’s easy to fall back to the oh-so-safe little black dress. Instead, I want to challenge you to change it up and have a bit more fun!

For this first look, I didn’t want to totally forgo wearing black, especially because there’s nothing more chic than a pair of opaque black tights. To change things up a bit, I went bold and opted for a bright red cocktail dress! I really do believe that everyone can wear red, it’s just a matter of finding the right shade. One of my favorite tricks is to bring my best red lipstick shopping and try to find a dress in that hue. After all, you already know that the color works with your skin tone.

I paired this form-fitting, flirty cocktail dress with a super fun pair of fringed booties from Madden Girl. How fun are they?? The fringe detail is what caught my eye as I was shopping, but I’m also really loving the dramatic stiletto heel.

I will definitely be dancing the night away in these fringed booties.

My second look is a totally different take on a cocktail look because it features something totally unexpected — a silk romper! I selected a romper in an olive green shade that feels more neutral, but still wayyy more fun than the LBD. Layer the romper over those trusty black tights and you’ve got a really one-of-a-kind look for a party.

I couldn’t quite let go of the bold red — after all, now is the perfect time of year to rock this shade. I chose this pair of Head Over Heels in bright crimson and couldn’t be happier. Plus, I especially loved the shiny gold detail on the heel.

While the silhouette of this shoe feels more traditional, the color definitely is not! I love the way it complements the olive green, too.

Deets on the ring from your first outfit & necklace from the second? They’re gorgeous! I also especially love the fringed booties. I’m not really great at the whole “heels” thing — did you get any sense of how comfortable they’d be over time?
