Ok, you guys… I have a secret to share. I’m a soda drinker. With all my focus on working out, climbing, and personal fitness, it feels like a deep, dark secret. Truth be told, I’m kind of embarrassed about it! I’ve been researching alternatives to soda that will satisfy the craving for sweetness and flavor without all of the sugar and gross chemicals. One way I’ve been doing that is through fancy water combinations. After much experimenting, my top 3 pairings are:
- Pomegranate + ginger + jalapeño
- Pomegranate + lime
- Grapefruit + ginger
Infused Water (prep time 10-15 minutes)
Ingredients
1 pomegranate- 1 limem cut into 1/8-inch slices
- 1 2-inch piece of ginger
- 1 grapefruit, cut into 1/4-inch slices
- 1 jalapeño sliced into 1/8 inch slices (if you want a milder flavor, try an Anaheim or poblano pepper)
Fill a large bowl with cool tap water. Wash the outside of the pomegranate, cut it in half and submerge both halves in the bowl of water. Usingyour fingertips, pull seeds out of the rind and let them drop into the water. Once you’re finished, remove all pieces of floating rind and pith from the water. Drain the seeds in a mesh strainer and store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days.
Peel and cut the ginger into 1/8 inch slices. Slice the lime and grapefruit. Store each item in a separate container in the fridge for 3-5 days. Cut the jalapeño into 1/8 inch slices.
Fill a 16-ounce glass or stainless steel water bottle with the medley of your choice and fill with water. Enjoy and refill with water all day. Discard the fruit at the end of each day and wash the container well.
