DesignOff deck makeover with World Market, before + inspiration

Ok, now that I’ve shared a bit about the hardships of my first month of homeownership, it’s time to get down-and-dirty with some decorating. The deck is the absolute best part of my bungalow — it nearly doubles the amount of entertaining space I have! And with summer just around the corner here in Seattle, I can’t help but focus on the deck. Thankfully, World Market reached out to me and fellow blogger Kyla from House of Hipsters to show off our individual styles and makeover our outdoor spaces in tandem. Get ready, it’s time to dig into the inspiration, then some LEGIT before photos (and details of a great sale)!

As usual, I started by pulling inspiration. I want the space feel like a casual Mediterranean lounge — uncomplicated furniture with clean lines, pop throw pillows, and gorgeous shades of blue. I wavered back and forth about whether I should do an outdoor dining moment or go full-on with the lounge. The house is a bungalow, so a lounge vibe felt right. Plus, there’s another spot in the yard that I’ve set aside for an outdoor dining spot.

As you’re about to see… my ‘before’ photos are ROUGH.

A LOT of work needs to be done to the deck itself. I’m leaving the structure as is, but thinking of doing a tinted stain — perhaps something that resembles driftwood or an antiqued white??

Then, my most FAVORITE project so far: I’m painting the french doors black. The very first time that I saw this house, I knew that was exactly what these doors needed. Hopefully, the end result will feel more modern and polished.

So… how am I going to pull this off? I put together this shopping list from World Market to get me started. They’ve got so many awesome outdoor decor pieces, including a great selection of furniture. I picked out this sofa and chair set, then layered on colorful, patterned decor pieces from there for my boho-meets-Mediterranean outdoor lounge.

So that’s my plan… what do you think?? Also, be sure to head over to House of Hipsters to see Kyla’s before + inspiration. I’m loving how she’s got more of an outdoor dining moment going on!

I’ve been working on the landscaping in my yard, but I’ve totally neglected the patio! With the glorious PNW summer right around the corner, thanks for the reminder that my outdoor living area needs an upgrade asap. I’m excited to see how yours turns out–I’m sure they’ll be tons of inspiration!
