my tiny bungalow // outdoor lighting AFTER with Lamps.com

The last time you guys saw the exterior of my house, it was not in the best shape… The light fixtures were dusty, broken, and practically vintage. The paint on my door was peeling and horribly sun faded. My ‘white’ siding was more like a shade of dingy, dirty grey. I could go on and on… The point is that it was bad and I needed some legit help. I was thrilled to partner with Lamps.com on my makeover (see the whole ‘before + inspiration post here), so now it’s time to cue the after photos!

How cool is it that Lamps.com also sent over a helpful postcard with guidance for lighting placement? I was only replacing existing fixtures, but I’m thinking of adding a few more at a later date and this will come in handy. This card comes with every order, too.

With your help, I selected this flush mount fixture and this wall lantern to perk up the place — there was MUCH debate in the comments!  My decision wasn’t easy, but it all came down to making the overall appearance feel more sophisticated and wayyy less like a fixer upper.

The glossy white on these fixtures feels modern and perfectly un-complicated. Also, the strong architectural lines juxtapose nicely against the bold black door. While I loved the other options I pulled, there was something about these handsome fixtures that I couldn’t stop thinking about. I’m beyond thrilled with how they complement the house!

I didn’t just stop at swapping out the lighting. No, no… instead, it was the perfect timing to pressure wash the siding back to it’s original shade of white. If you’ve been thinking about pressure washing your house, I cannot recommend it enough. This step of the makeover took about 3-4 hours (my house is tiny…) and literally washed away years and years of aging. While I deeply dislike my vinyl siding, I am quite pleased with how ‘like new’ it appears now. Totally worth it!

Plus, how about that glossy black front door?? I’m on a bit of a budget, so I kept the existing door, but sanded it down, stripped away the old paint, and went ALL IN with Tricorn Black from Sherwin-Williams. Eventually, that green paint you see while get re-painted, too. Just need to pick a new color…

It’s funny how 3 really easy projects during one very productive weekend can totally perk up the place, huh? Let me know what you think of the makeover below in the comments!
