I have a confession to make: I am terrible when it comes to picking a rug– especially when it comes to picking out vintage rugs on Etsy. It’s so easy to get totally overwhelmed by all of the options… by the colors, the patterns, the dimensions… the price! I can never make up my mind. 

For example, before I selected this rug for my old loft, I bought and returned 4 different rugs. This happens pretty much every time I need to cover my floor. It can get quite stressful. 

I swear, I have looked at approximately 1,000,000 rugs and most of them are on Etsy. I figured that I could put all this endless clicking and scrolling to good use and share some of my favorite vintage rug Etsy shops with you guys to help make your shopping easier!

Why Buy a Vintage Rug?

First things first: why should you choose a vintage rug over a new one? Well, vintage rugs can bring warmth, depth and a certain character that comes from something old. Rugs that have lived a life before they come into your home add an effortless grace that just can’t be bought with a new rug. 

Vintage rugs are also fun to style! They lend themselves to layering, mixing and matching. Older rugs truly get better with age. If you aren’t familiar with Etsy, well where have you been for the last 10 years?! Etsy is a marketplace for handmade, vintage and customized goods. I like to shop Etsy specifically for unique home decor and gifts.

Etsy has a vast selection of vintage rugs at price points that fit every budget. I can also shop for rugs at midnight from the comfort of my home which is a huge bonus.

Buying a rug online seems like a gamble, I know. But many rug shops on Etsy have detailed descriptions, measurements and some even offer free shipping and returns.

First up is the intense color explosion of Loom and Field. OMG you guys, these rugs are like candy. While I’m going for a muted, sophisticated palette of white, black, and navy, I just could not help myself when it came to the hot pink rugs!

Vintage Rugs on Etsy: Berber Tresorly

Speaking of color, meet Berber Tresorly. Berber Tresorly specializes in Moroccan rugs and I dare you to not lose your mind over the patterns, colors and textures. These rugs are truly works of art. If you’re like me and want to see ALL THE OPTIONS, Jamshidi Carpets has you covered. Their assortment of rugs is more traditional and in the dark colorways more synonymous with conventional, older rugs.

Vintage Rugs on Etsy: Andean Sheep Shop

For a different look, I suggest Andean Sheep Shop. Andean Sheep Shop carries traditional Peruvian rugs. I’m in love with the bold color, especially the pops of tangerine. I’m normally not super into orange, but paired with bold geometrics and hues of magenta, purple and aqua, I’m totally enamored.

Vintage Rugs on Etsy: Berber Moroccan Rugs

If you’re a fan of the shaggy, Beni Ourain and Boucherouite rugs, check out Berber Moroccan Rugs. Boucherouite rugs add a ton of texture to life to any room. Berber Moroccan Rugs selection is huge and they carry more than shaggy rugs too. Their shop includes a wide variety of colors, styles and sizes.

Vintage Rugs on Etsy: Turkish Rug Empire

For a budget option, check out Turkish Rug Empire. Some of their rugs are a little more worn-in, but they have fantastic prices and run sales often. You really can’t beat a rug (pun intended!) for less than $200.
