It’s with a heavy heart that I write this post. The thing is that we had shot these photos on November 4, well before the votes were cast and tallied. I had planned to post these photos in celebration of her election, to show just how much I cared about electing a female president. I was that confident in the world and future that Hillary Clinton envisioned and inspired me to want so very badly. And yet… here I sit, still in tears over the results, and so, so angry. There, I said it. My disappointment runs deep and I’m really struggling to shake it.
I find myself wanting to do so much more — march in DC, give as much as I possibly can to the organizations that I know will be gutted, hold my soul sisters close.
And I spend a lot of time worrying about the future, more so that ever before.
In terms of giving, I do urge you so much (so so so sooooo much) to use your money to have your voice heard. Put your money where your values are; it is so crucial right now as we are on the precipice. Here’s a short list of where I’ve given and why (there is an even longer list over on Jezebel):
- Planned Parenthood — because my heart breaks for some 16 year old girl that I don’t even know in Texas, Indiana, Oklahoma who feels so stuck and trapped and totally without options for her future.
- the ACLU — because our constitutional rights are in jeopardy in a big way.
- She Should Run — because I don’t want girls to think that this is it, that they can’t be president but a misogynist, racist bigot can.
- NextGen Climate Action — because as a climber and outdoor lover, I cannot and will not stand by as our precious forests, mountains, oceans, and land are depleted for the sake of political gain, money, and greed.
We’re in this together you guys.
