Ever since I got home from my accident and figured out how to get back into the pace of day-to-day life, I’ve noticed one resounding theme: a deep and true appreciation for the simple things in life. The truth is that this injury truly shook me to my core and has now encouraged me to re-evaluate everything. Partially this introspection is due to how hard it is for me to do physical things, but also because of the sheer emotion involved in healing. I’m choosing to remain positive though, which essentially means that I am all about enjoying life’s little moments these days. One moment that immediately comes to mind is the day I got home from the hospital and was reunited with our dogs! Today I partnered with K9 Natural to share that story, plus how I’m enriching the dogs’ meals to keep them happy and healthy.
Getting home from the hospital and California was pretty stressful. Literally all I wanted was to be reunited with Noodle and Lucy at home so we could snuggle and they could comfort me. A friend picked us up from the airport and drove straight home so I could get settled. When we got back to the house, Sean went to retrieve them from his dad (aka their second home!). They rushed through the door, bursting with energy and wiggles and whimpers. The sheer emotion of the moment brought me to tears. I was just so relieved to be reunited with the pups, in our home, and able to squeeze them. I asked Sean to help them up onto my lap so I could hold them and smell their silly little paws. It was a mix of laughter and tears and, honestly, the best welcome home I could have wanted.
This moment is still so clear in my mind, even now 5 weeks later.
Now that I’m much more settled into day-to-day life, I’ve been simplifying my everyday chores, such as the dogs’ mealtime. We’ve always made sure that they were fed the best of the best and, recently, we added the K9 Natural Beef Feast Toppers to their meals. We picked it up at Mud Bay here in Ballard, but it’s also available at other independent pet stores throughout Seattle. Noodle has been strangely picky about his meals lately, so adding these freeze dried bits to his bowl has really helped. Suddenly he feels inspired to eat his entire breakfast again! Both he and Lucy adore the taste and I know that it’s really great for their skin and joints.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with K9 Natural, it’s a great dog food made with fresh New Zealand wholefood ingredients. For example, their meats are grass-fed and free range, while also providing our dogs with the nourishing proteins and fats they need to thrive. I’ve really noticed an improvement in Noodle’s ability to maintain a healthy weight — and Lucy’s luscious long hair has never been shinier! I definitely recommend adding the toppers to your dog’s diet.
I’ve been back for 4 weeks (today is the 5 week anniversary of my surgery) and I’m just so grateful to be here, squeezing our pups and dodging their sloppy kisses.
