Our relationship, like pretty much everyone else’s, has been an evolution. Sean and I met on Tinder and I immediately fell for him… hard. There is just something about him that has always made my stomach do funny little flips. Also, no one has ever made me laugh harder than him! And not just any normal laugh, but that really loud, annoying, from-the-core-of-your-body laugh. Truth be told, I’ve also never been in such a loving, sweet relationship. It took a while for the two of us to learn the other’s love language, but after three and a half years we’ve got it on lock! Today I partnered with our friends Helzberg Diamonds to share how we express love in our relationship + how they’ve made it really easy (and affordable!) for you to do the same. Plus, I think this might be the first post where Sean has written a portion!
How I Choose to Express Love:
I am definitely one of those people who expresses love with words… I am very vocal about how I feel and all the things I love about Sean. Technically, my love language is called Words of Affirmation, but I just think of it as sharing how I feel and how much I care in a very overt, understandable way. Basically, if I tell you that I love you, you know that I love you. I’m pretty simple like that!
When I feel especially affectionate, I pile on the compliments and sweet nothings. And my expression of love isn’t only confined to the spoken word; I also loooove to leave notes and cute cards. Any time I travel, I always leave a cute card for Sean on his pillow. Sometimes I even sneak little notes into his jacket pocket so he finds it when he’s at work!
How Sean Chooses to Express Love:
In terms of my love language, I am more of a touch person, placing a lot of value on the importance of physical contact. Every time I come home from work, I wrap Joanna in a big hug. We also grab each other’s butts which is sort of our form of greeting now. Gotta love a good (loving) grope. When Joanna was in the hospital after her accident, she was really upset. The best way I could think of to comfort her was to gently climb into the hospital bed and hold her as the nurses worked to get her more comfortable.
(Joanna’s note: can you tell he’s a man of few words? It’s been fun finding a middle ground of me being so vocal and him being the silent, but strong type!)
Helzberg Diamonds makes it so easy for you to express your love — and in a way that won’t break the bank. Because, let’s be real, it’s the small, every day magic types of things that really mean the most! The “I Am Loved” button was created by Barnett Helzberg in 1967 after proposing to his wife, Shirley. He created it as a way to help other people feel the same euphoria he felt about his engagement! The point of the button is really to just make someone feel loved — and it doesn’t need to be a romantic partner, either. These buttons are a great way to show anyone that you care, from your best friend to a family member. Over the last 50 years, in fact, more than 65 million buttons have been spread across the globe!
You can stop by any Helzberg Diamionds store to pick-up your own I am Loved button for free.
I’d love to know who you’d give a button to… comment below. And be sure to stay tuned to my Instagram Stories because I’ll be sharing even more about the “I Am Loved” button!
