As easy and convenient as it is, I find it best to go above and beyond the standard hostess gifts (aka a bottle of wine that was picked up on the way). Just think of it this way: the host has worked so hard to create a welcome environment, prepare a delicious meal, and entertain…. so a thoughtful, unexpected host gift is a nice way to say ‘thank you’ for all of that effort! Plus, chances likely that your host will end up actually using the thoughtful gift in the future and thinking of you with fondness. Isn’t it just the best feeling to give a wonderful gift?
