How to Make Impactful Updates to A Small Bedroom

Thanks to our kitchen remodel and the New Year, I have been on a tear going through our tiny bungalow and making changes to every room. Whether that means reorganizing our credenza, giving the bathroom a fresh coat of paint, or purging unwanted clothing, I’ve taken the past few weeks to make some major changes throughout our home. Our small bedroom is my latest project! I teamed up with Soraa Home to update our lighting, plus make a few more changes in the bedroom.

Mini Makeover: Big Changes to Our Small Bedroom

Our bedroom has long been my fave spot in the house. What’s especially funny is that it’s a room that I don’t really change up very much. Usually I get a bit… bored after a while and make some updates. But with the bedroom, it feels like we got it right the first time! If this is your first time seeing the space, you can see the before photos and the reveal. Now that I spend more time in this room thanks to our kitchen renovation that’s taken over the whole house… I wanted it to be even more perfect for us. These small changes have had a big impact on the space!

Update your lightbulbs.

When Soraa Home first reached out to partner, I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical. Like, how much can a light bulb really change? The answer is A LOT. As you can see from this totally unedited animation, the Soraa Radiant makes quite the impact. Our Rebecca Atwood wallpaper is the crowning jewel in our home and what makes the bedroom the best room in the bungalow. So, of course, I would want it to pop.

The Soraa Radiant is an LED bulb that is uniquely designed with full spectrum technology. This means that you see every color as nature intended! For so long, this type of lighting was a secret of commercial spaces, but now you can bring it into your own home. One of my biggest pet peeves is lighting that skews too yellow. It just drives me nuts. Now, thanks to Soraa Radiant, I have said ‘goodbye’ to that in our home.

And just a few more features of the Soraa Radiant light bulbs:

  • dimmable
  • no buzz (hallelujah)
  • no headaches

(Also, can we talk about how hard it was for me to feel confident enough to post unedited photos to the blog???)

Try a new nightstand.

There has always been something about our vintage nightstands that wasn’t right. I could never quite put my finger on it. The scale was off, they are too dark, too Mid-Century Modern… after 2 years of them, I decided to try something different. We’re still on quite a budget because of the kitchen, so I bought two of these wooden nightstands for less than $100 each at Ikea. I love that they feel modern, yet casual. Plus, the addition of wood always helps to warm up a space, don’t you think?

Refresh your bedding.

From my past days working in retailer as a textile designer, I always remember that January = lots of bedding sales. They used to be called ‘white sales.’ This is the perfect time to scoop up some linen sheets to refresh your bed. If you’re on a tighter budget, a new throw is a great option as well.

When it comes to bedding, personally, I love a mix of percale and linen, all white and subtle pattern. Our fitted sheet is usually percale, then we top the bed with a linen duvet cover. We like lots of pillows, so usually one set is in percale and one is in linen. It’s just so dreamy to have a mix like this! Sort of like sinking into a cloud.

If the winter doldrums have you down or you simply want your home decor to pop more, you should definitely check out Soraa Home. And, honestly, what I love the most about the Radiant is that we get beautiful, white light — even in gloomy, rainy Seattle! Gone are my days of sitting in darkness.
