In case you missed the feedback I received from our most recent reader survey, one key response that I heard over and over was a lack of interest in beauty and fashion in general… which I totally understand! Let’s be real here, I am not a beauty guru and probably never will be. I’m ok with that. But here’s the thing… I still really love trying out new skincare, sometimes adding a piece or two to my wardrobe etc. Also, I’m a pathological sharer, so I feel a need to share anything that I really, truly love (aka the newest exfoliator from Elemis). So instead of individual product reviews, I thought it would help to do one catch-all type of post! Meet my new series: things of note. Each month I’m going to round up my faves in beauty, skincare, home decor, books… anything that has really hit a high note for me that I must must must share with you guys!
Joanna’s Favorite Things from February 2019 (including Staub, Elemis, Standard Wax & more)
Before we dig into each item, I feel like it’s worthwhile to note that a few of these items have been gifted to me. I have indicated that with an asterisk * next to the name of the product. As usual though, I am only sharing what I have absolutely loved and would spend ‘real money’ on regardless.
Standard Wax Black Iris Candle
My love for candles is long and deep… I just can’t ever pick one! This month, I am obsessing over this one that I picked up from Moorea Seal. The fragrance is called Black Iris and it has notes of sandalwood, amber, violet accord, and iris. The fragrance combo is a bit sultry, but still a bit floral. In my book, it’s total perfection. I also love that it is in a beautiful, bespoke white ceramic vessel with the perfect black rim. Once the candle burns down, I’m going to use the vessel as a garden pot!
Staub Ceramics Oval Covered Baking Dish*
This baking dish came as a holiday gift from my friends at FeedFeed and I have been obsessed with it ever since. Previously, I had ever only known Staub for their incredible cast iron pieces that I love, but now I love their ceramics, too.
Pink Fuzzy Slippers
Sean gave these fuzzy slippers to me during the holidays and I am so obsessed. They are so silly, I just had to have them. But I love that they are cute, but also functional. I’m sort of on a kick right now of wanting to replace all of my frumpy-yet-cozy stuff with comfy things that are actually cute. This is my starting point!
Elemis Superfood Blackcurrant Jelly Exfoliator*
I’m a longtime fan of Elemis skincare, but this exfoliator is on a totally different level. My skin is really sensitive, so I’m pretty picky when it comes to exfoliators. The scrub feeling in this comes from small particles of blackcurrant. The jelly texture sort of turns to a milky consistency when you use it and softens your skin even more. I’m totally addicted to this!
ILĀ Peruvian Pink Salt*
Now that I’m cooking again, I am really into fancy finishing salts. I was given this Peruvian pink salt awhile ago and totally forgot about it. While cleaning out my studio, I found it and have been using it on almost every meal ever since. I love the bright flavor it adds to everything!
Sweater Knit Blanket
I actually bought this blanket for a shoot and fell in love with it… so I bought my own! It’s so cozy, the perfect weight, and washes really well. Also it feels and looks way more expensive than it actually is.
Rituals Incense Pack
With so many pets, I am always on the lookout for ways to make our house smell great. I’m all about palo santo, so I ordered this set to try out a few different types of incense. The quality is good and it smells fab.
Clear Shelf Dividers
I ordered these shelf dividers when I became frustrated with my sweater storage… and I haven’t looked back since! These are a total lifesaver and helped to keep each sweater neatly folded on my shelf in our shared closet.
Vanity Light
In case you missed my Instagram Stories, I did a mini makeover of our bathroom recently to make it look less like a fixer upper space. We swapped our gross 1970s fixture for this one and it’s been great. I also love how affordable it is, yet looks so high end! If you’re looking for a basic, affordable vanity light with some style, definitely look into this one.
Is there anything you want me to try out for next month? Or something that you’re absolutely loving that I need to try? Let me know!
