Weekend Wellness | What’s your guilty pleasure?

The other night, I was scrolling through Instagram as I’m wont to do. I was in the bathtub, streaming the latest episode of The Bachelor, and sipping wine. It hit me: I am basking in the warm glow of many of my guilty pleasures in one moment. What bliss! So then… what if I wrote a post about my favorite guilty pleasure and came clean… almost like Carrie’s ‘secret single behavior?’ I know I can’t be alone in having quirky guilty pleasures, so I wanted to share some of mine with you today… and maybe inspire you to own yours!

Joanna’s Not-So-Secret Guilty Pleasures

I am of the mindset that embracing your guilty pleasure is a form of self-care and wellness. If anything, being upfront about them, as quirky as they could be, is like drawing a line in the sand and telling the world exactly what you need to feel good. And it doesn’t even have to be something huge, as you’ll see from my list.

Really fancy salt.

I am such a salt-addict. I know, I know… probably not the best for my health, but I just love it. I can’t help myself! Lately I’ve gotten really into fancy salts, the kind you keep in a tiny, cute bowl on the counter and sprinkle over everything. This is also becoming more and more of a guilty pleasure as I cook in our mostly-finished kitchen. Maldon… pink… fleur de sel… I love it all.

Hoarding library books.

This guilty pleasure probably isn’t really that big of a deal, to be honest. Sean’s sister (hi, Molly!) recently helped me connect my Kindle to the Seattle Public Library and it has opened up a MASSIVE world of possibilities. It also means that I currently have 27 unread books on my Kindle, waiting for me to get to them… I’m a jerk though and have it on airplane mode so that they can’t take them back from me. Thankfully, the library hasn’t caught onto me yet and tried to charge me. It seems like they are just able to take back the digital books somehow and give them to someone else, so it feels like no harm, no foul… right?

Letting the chickens into the house.

This is one of my habits that Sean playfully hates, but also is like… why! The thing is that I am totally fascinated by our chickens and think they are the weirdest things in the world. I love seeing them totally out of context, like wandering around our house. The dogs want to eat our flock, so I usually only get to let them in once in a while. When I do, I wash off their feet with soap and warm water, then let them roam. Usually they don’t poo, thankfully. It just cracks me up! I can’t help it.

Beauty YouTube.

Ok, this is my LEGIT guilty pleasure… It all started when I broke my leg a while back. I was really bored, cruising the internet and found a local beauty influencer with a crazy following on YouTube. Then I subscribed to her channel… then I started following other beauty YouTubers… and now I am 100% hooked!! I don’t even really wear that much makeup. I just enjoy the videos so much. I also have a ton of respect for these women who built incredible followings and community. My 3 favorites are Thataylaa, Tati Westbrook, and Jackie Aina. I hope that one day I can build something nearly as incredible as what they have built!

So these are just a few of my fave guilty pleasures. Let me know in the comments one of yours! I’m dying of curiosity.
