This post has been 10 months in the making and I’m SO EXCITED that it’s finally here… it’s reveal day for our kitchen renovation!! As you may remember, our kitchen used to be dark, dingy, and very, very sad. But now? It is bright, fresh, and oh-so-inviting. Sarah from Room For Tuesday designed the most perfect space ever for us — seriously, I am totally wow-ed. I’m beyond obsessed with our kitchen remodel, so let’s dig into all of the details. Get a coffee and a snack… this is a long post!
The Long-Awaited Reveal of Our Tuxedo Kitchen Renovation!
I really can’t believe this day is here. I have SO many photos to share with you. There are just so many details that went into making this renovation complete and special.
Our Shaker Cabinets
Our beautiful, Shaker-style cabinets are from Diamond Cabinets, part of the MasterBrand Cabinets family of brands, and they are so incredibly well-made. We chose the Sumner door style because I loved the clean, sleek lines of the cabinet fronts. Also, they were a nice complement to the overall style of our tiny bungalow. The white and black (aka Tuxedo Kitchen) lend a modern feel, while the Shaker style is timeless. I know that in years to come I will never get tired of them or feel like they are trendy!
In a few weeks, I’m going to share lots of peeks into what is actually in each cabinet — and how it’s organized!
Black Stainless Appliances from KitchenAid
If you remember from our old kitchen, our appliances were in rough shape… and we didn’t even have a dishwasher or hood! I’ve been joking that we are finally in the 21st century now that we have our new suite of KitchenAid appliances. Let’s dig into each one:
French door refrigerator
All I wanted was a fridge that would help to extend the life of our
Gas cooktop — with a griddle!
After 10 months of cooking on our camp stove, our new gas cooktop is MAGIC. Not only does it feature Even-Heat technology, which makes cooking even the most complex things a touch easier, but it also has a griddle! The first time I made pancakes, I did a little dance of excitement.
The Smart Oven+ with Powered Attachments
You know I’m obsessed with anything ‘smart’ for our home… so
As you know, I’m all about making the most of any space and having an oven that can bake, grill (like, woah — I don’t have to go outside or take up space with a grill, I can do this in my oven?! Crazy.) and steamer sized for a family of four is amazing for those looking to expand their culinary horizons without having to take up tons of counter or cabinet space.

We’re sharing recipes using this awesome new oven soon. Stay tuned.
Talk about game changer… we have wayyy fewer arguments now that no one has to hand wash dishes anymore! Our new 44 dBA Dishwasher with Dynamic Wash Arms does it all. My favorite part? How quiet it is. The first time we ran the dishwasher, I was paranoid that it wasn’t going. turns out that I’m just not used to modern technology!
And lastly, our 30″ Wall-Mount, 3-Speed Canopy Hood has been a welcome addition. It’s so nice to cook and know that our bedroom won’t smell like dinner. The coolest part of the hood is that it has a boost function. This means that it goes into a timed, short burst of high-speed ventilation. I looooove it.
Our Polycor Georgia Marble countertops and backsplashes
I know the photos of our countertops essentially speak for themselves… but I can’t help myself. I adore our new counters and backsplashes. I’ve long been obsessed with the idea and look of marble countertops, but this stone from Polycor is so special. Not only is it stronger than traditional marble, but the tonality, coloring, and veining is stunning. Close up, there’s a crystal-y structure to the stone that I love. From far away, the dramatic veining is visually striking.
And our waterfall!!!! You guys. I love it so much. I can see it from the living room and sometimes I glance over and just grin.
The Fireclay Chaine Homme tile floor
Our floor… HOLY COW. This tile floor was a true labor of love… and I am so incredibly happy we chose the Chaine Homme from Fireclay Tile in Slate Blue. In case you missed the selection process, I immediately gravitated toward these H-shaped, interlocking geometric tiles because they have sentimental meaning to me. I chose them as a subtle homage to my grandfather, Harvey, because he helped me buy my home. He played a huge role in my life and, even now that he’s passed, he continues to be a motivating force in everything I do. I am so grateful to Fireclay for helping me to honor his memory in this way.
Our Farmhouse sink
Meet our new “kitchen bathtub,” aka the Bradstreet II Fireclay sink from Sinkology! I’ve wanted a farmhouse sink for so long. What I love the most about this one, though, is that it feels more like a modern twist on the classic. Also, the fireclay material makes it incredibly durable and easy to clean. My fave part of our new sink? The heavy duty stainless steel bottom grid! Stuff no longer sits at the bottom of the sink, risking rusting or swelling on wooden pieces. It’s a small addition that is a total game changer.
Delta faucet and pot filler
I talked about it recently, but my love for our Delta Faucet Trinsic® Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet with Touch2O® Technology is REAL. I’m officially obsessed with being able to turn water on and off with a simple tap. And you can’t beat that matte black finish!
And nothing has made our kitchen feel more luxurious than having a pot filler! I love how easy it is to fill pots and pans with water as needed — especially when I’m cooking up a storm.
OMG. We actually have a pantry!! Sean’s uncle made us a custom birds eye maple countertop as a wedding gift. It’s where I make my coffee every morning and it’s just so special.
Plus, we have tons of dry goods storage thanks to shelving from MasterBrand Cabinets and these arched brackets from Rejuvenation. I know 3 brackets can seem like overkill, but nothing is worse than a shelf that’s bowing IMO. Also, these small bronze wire baskets are a lifesaver!
And lastly, the finishing touches!
Drawer pulls and knobs are always an amazing finishing touch. Our hardware from Rejuvenation is a great example! I felt in love with the clean, architectural lines of the Upton collection in aged brass. The drawer pulls are the perfect accent to our Shaker drawer fronts, don’t you think? And the cabinet knobs are subtle, but so comfortable in my hand.
For clean, bright walls we chose Pure White SW7005 and an accent wall in Anchors Aweigh SW 9179 from Sherwin-Williams in the Emerald Interior Paint. It’s a bit brighter than the white we’ve used in the rest of the house and I love it so much more. I’m in the process of updating the rest of the paint to match now! And we were so lucky that Paintzen came over to do the painting for us. I have a full review of what it’s like to work with Paintzen coming up… but let me put it this way: I will never paint a room myself AGAIN.
Sean actually chose the pendant fixture over our sink! The mix of brass, gold, and matte black is the perfect complement to the entire space, don’t you think? I also love the architectural details.
In the area near our backdoor and bathroom door (more on that coming!!), I chose an aged brass ceiling light that resembles a porthole on a boat. Flush mounts can be so boring, but this one has character!
An homage to our home
During the demo day process, we removed layer after layer of shiplap. Each cedar plank was held in place with hand forged iron nails. So we collected them all and now display them on the windowsill. I am a really sentimental person, so I love finding ways to honor the history and character of our old home.
Custom walnut floating shelves
And lastly… our carpenter’s masterpiece, the custom floating shelves! Kit from KM Design/Build did an incredible job on them. Each is a single piece of walnut that he made to fit perfectly aligned with our hood. I love how the wood adds a touch of warmth to the space — and sooooo many opportunities to style countless #shelfies.
But what do the chickens think??
It’s peony season, so I couldn’t help myself… I had to fill our farmhouse sink with them! And then let Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding have a frolic. Don’t worry, I gave the counters a good cleaning after the girls went back into the coop.
