The day I discovered the Turkish rug in our bedroom, I knew it was The One. After designing the space to be predominantly white and blue, I knew I needed a pop. That pop had to be coral! The issue was in finding the right size, the right shade of coral, and the right pattern in rug. I ended up driving down to Portland and finding this gem at Wild Shaman that is actually my favorite rug in the entire tiny bungalow. I’m asked about it constantly, especially on Instagram. So I finally dug deep and found TONS of sources for similar vintage rugs in a coral color palette. If you’re in the market for a new rug or just want to mimic ours, this post is for you!

The color palette and tone of coral was absolutely key when picking our bedroom carpet. I didn’t want anything that skewed too pink or too orange… it had to be just right! What I love the most about ours are the subtle tones of blue and taupe. They complement the coral color so well — and tie in our wallpaper!

While shopping, I knew I wanted a vintage one-of-a-kind rug. And honestly, the style didn’t matter too much to me. Persian, Turkish, Kilim… I was ok with keeping my options open! Selecting a vintage rug vs. a new rug comes down to personal preference. I love the way older rugs feel because they wear and soften over time. Plus, there is something so special about knowing your rug is truly unique!

One-of-a-Kind Turkish Rugs

I can’t even tell you how much fun it was to fall into a rug shopping rabbit hole. As a former rug designer at Anthro, I used to research vintage carpet constructions daily. It was so much fun. The options I’ve pulled for this blog post are truly beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces that range from different styles including Anatolian, Oushak, & more. Most of these selections are hand-knotted and made of super-soft, worn wool.

  2. Coral Suzani runner
  3. Turkish Anatolian rug
  4. 1960s Turkish Oushak rug
  5. Khotan rug
  6. Hand-knotted Indo vintage traditional wool rug
  7. Khoton rug with Turkic motif

  9. Hand-knotted Turkish Melis vintage wool rug

New Turkish Inspired Rugs

Truth be told, I hesitated to share new, mass produced versions that are similar to my bedroom rug. Mostly because so many of them could be misconstrued as knock offs. However, I believe that interior design should be inclusive and available for all. When perusing this list, keep in mind that some of the rugs are not constructed the same way as a vintage rug. Some of them are printed or woven with synthetics. Not to say that’s ‘bad’ or anything, but I want to set expectations.

  1. Bailey area rug
  2. Terracotta and beige Persian style Izmir area rug
  3. Southwestern medallion transitional wool rug
  4. Tashkent Ikat hand knotted rug
  5. Avra transitional handmade wool area rug
  6. Presidio area rug
  7. Hand-tufted Jassa rug

My favorite online sources for vintage rugs include Ecarpet Gallery on eBay, Lulu & Georgia, One Kings Lane, and (of course) Etsy. I shared a lot of awesome Etsy shops for vintage rugs before, too!

If there are other types of vintage rugs that you’re looking for, let me know and I can help you search.
