I am consistently blown away by how supportive you guys all are, especially with our new projects! The response from the launch of our newest makeover at The Craftsman House was astounding. And today I am SO stoked to finally reveal the entire space that I redesigned with the help of Amazon Home! Get a coffee and a snack because I have sooo many gorgeous details to share with you about Andy’s new living and dining rooms.

The Craftsman House: A Modern Traditional Living & Dining Room Makeover Reveal
As you’ll remember from the before photos, Andy’s Craftsman style house hadn’t been updated in about 15-20 years. He’s getting ready to retire soon and we wanted to give him a space that felt comfortable, cozy, and updated. I think we did just that!
The Modern Traditional Living Room
My biggest goal with making over the living room in The Craftsman House was to make it comfortable for Andy. He reads a LOT and I expect he’ll be reading even more once he’s retired. Obviously, a good reading chair and lamp was crucial! He is beyond thrilled with his new leather arm chair. Seriously, I have yet to go over there and see him sitting anywhere else!

He also had space for a sectional, which is now Lucy’s favorite place to nap. Before, the space felt very closed off because of the extra love seat. Now the space is open and airy. Pillows and a throw help to make the space feel even cozier!

We also added a coffee table with plenty of storage for books. It’s the perfect spot for me to kick up my feet while I chat with Andy (probably about making over his bedroom next!).
Also, can we pause for a moment and talk about how most of these pieces are from Amazon’s exclusive brands, such as Stone & Beam, Ravenna Home, and Rivet? The design team totally deserves kudos for the stylish, comfortable decor and furniture! Plus, because I am a Prime member, I enjoyed fast, free shipping — even on the big furniture pieces.

The Modern Traditional Dining Room
I have to say… the dining room is my favorite part of the entire room refresh! The design for this space was inspired by the patterned rug. As soon as I spotted it on Amazon, I was obsessed. From there, I chose this beautiful dining table because of the handsome herringbone woodwork on the top. It’s the perfect blend of modern and traditional.

Andy’s one requirement for the dining room was to have comfortable padded dining chairs. So, naturally, I went a little overboard and got him gorgeous upholstered wingback dining chairs for the head of the table. The other dining chairs coordinate and are padded as well. Now we can sit around the dinner table and chat for hours and hours — all comfortably!

I also updated his vintage credenza with a set of leaning mirrors and a small bar area. The mirrors bounce light into the dining room, making it feel even bigger. The final finishing touch for the dining room was a new drum shaped chandelier. I love how it adds a bit of subtle drama to the space — and matches the Craftsman style of the house!

We have family dinner together quite often and now they will be happening at Andy’s house even more.

The Entryway
And, lastly, we tackled the entryway area. It’s a pretty small foyer, so I chose a patterned square rug to match a vintage velvet chair. Honestly, the biggest change has been the new Schoolhouse inspired semi-flush mount ceiling light. I love that it matches the style of the house and provides sufficient light when entering the home in the evening.

It was really fun to work on designing this space — and to step outside of my comfort zone, too! This is the first interior design project I’ve undertaken with a more traditional vibe. Honestly, shopping with Amazon Home made it easy for me. There were so many options to choose from, but the key was using the app in order to view items within the existing space. That tool helped me to visualize the new design.
