If you’ve seen any of my past renovation projects, you know that I get a bit paralyzed when it comes to selecting a paint color. There are so many options for colors and various hues that it can be overwhelming. Thankfully, Clare Paint has taken the guesswork out of making a decision by curating a collection of paint colors that are interior designer approved. They were kind enough to partner on The Craftsman House project for Sean’s dad, so I wanted to share my honest review about their product and dig into the details of how I chose the colors for each portion of the project. Also, keep reading for my FULL review of Clare Paint!

My Honest Review of Clare Paint + Our Accent Ceiling at The Craftsman House
Designer-Curated Paint
Clare Paint was founded by interior designer and entrepreneur Nicole Gibbons as a way to make it easier and more inspiring to shop for paint. Rather than presenting thousands of options, she curated a selection of colors that are the best of the best. Because they are chosen by an expert designer, you can trust that the shade range is truly wonderful. Gone are the days of sifting through 50 shades of beige.
Nicole Gibbons also made it incredibly easy to select a color, too. Clare offers large swatches called Perfect Color Swatch. They are literally stickers that you can peel and stick on your walls, ceilings, trim… anywhere! They are a huge help when selecting a paint color. To choose shades for this dining room, I ordered a few options of pale blue tones, neutral greys, and shades of white… then proceeded to stick them EVERYWHERE. When selecting paint, always check out the sample swatches throughout the day and night to see how it shifts in the light. For example, sometimes a grey can turn green! When the paint arrived, I actually compared the swatches to the real paint and it was a spot-on match.
In terms of Clare as a company, I love supporting them not only because their product is great, but also because it’s a Black woman-owned company. Nicole Gibbons is truly a rockstar interior designer and has created an incredible paint company that more people need to know about! If you’d like to align your dollars with your personal values, I encourage you to consider Clare for your next home renovation project.

Zero VOC Paint + Minimal Environmental Impact
Out of all the walls I’ve painted in my life, this was the first time I didn’t experience that overwhelming “paint smell.” The other thing I love about Clare is their policy on ensuring that their product is as sustainable as possible. All of their paints are Zero VOC and GREENGUARD Gold certified, which means that they’ve met the most stringent standards for low chemical emissions. Also, they release fewer pollutants and support healthier indoor air environments.
Additionally, Clare’s paint is formulated without any toxic air contaminants, hazardous air pollutants, or and chemicals that are on the EPA chemicals of concert list. And lastly, even during the manufacturing process of the paint, they use water conservation systems to help reuse and recycle large volumes of wastewater.
Plus, Paint Supplies
Also, Clare offers paintings supplies to help you get the job done right. We used two of the 8 Piece Paint Kit because there was so much wall and ceiling to cover! The entire kit made completing the paint project a breeze, but I have to say… there’s a special place in my heart for the extension pole. It came in so handy when it was time to roll out the ceiling!

And now… the accent ceiling!
While working on Andy’s house, the first thing I did was select paint colors. I had ordered all of the furniture and decor online, so I knew I needed a wall color that would be neutral enough to go with everything. Clare offers large swatches that are essentially like stickers in order to make the paint ordering process a breeze. Andy and I had a few ‘design meetings’ where we stuck them all over the rooms to help us making the final decision.
For the walls in the entryway, living room, and dining room, I chose Seize the Gray because it is literally the perfect neutral (and Clare calls it that!). This light gray hue has minimal undertones and is oh-so-versatile.

I also knew immediately that I wanted to use a pop color to paint the ceiling. Andy’s Craftsman home has incredible moulding, so it felt right to up the drama factor with an accent color. I didn’t want to go too overboard though, so, again, I perused Clare’s color assortment and chose a mid-tone. Ultimately, I chose a soft and airy shade of blue-green called Headspace. I’m so obsessed with it. We have some leftover, so I’m thinking of using it in a few other places in Andy’s house once we tackle them!
The last step was to paint the trim. I selected Clare’s trim paint in the color Fresh Kicks (best name ever). It’s the most perfect clean, fresh, and modern white with no undertones. Plus, I love that it’s not too glossy. This trim paint really helped to make the accent ceiling pop even more!
