Being a blogger has brought me so many incredible opportunities, especially now that we’re getting married. A great example is when Seattle-based bakery Trophy Cupcakes reached out to be part of our big day! We’re lucky enough that they are going to provide the desserts for our wedding — YUM. After calming down from the excitement of receiving that email, I realized we needed to set up a wedding cake tasting session! Then I realized I had no idea what we were doing… so I did some research and wanted to share some cake tasting tips for the future brides and grooms out there.

My Best Tips for Wedding Cake Tasting
I’ve been a fan of Trophy Cupcakes for sooo long because I have such a sweet tooth. We went to the prettiest location of all, the one at the Bravern in Bellevue. Just check out all of the beautiful details in the store!

Involve your partner
This is probably a no brainer, but my #1 suggestion is to make sure both you and your partner participate in the process. Sean has a way of surprising me with his opinions, so I made sure to include him from the beginning.

Peruse your options beforehand
Trophy Cupcakes lists their cupcake and macaron flavors online, which was sooo helpful! Before we went to the wedding cake tasting sesh, Sean and I perused the list and came up with a shorter list of our favorites. This helped us be more efficient with our time while tasting and narrowed down all of the incredible choices!

Consider your dinner menu
Because our wedding is non-traditional and very intimate, we’re offering guests a family style dinner of Greek food. While deciding on dessert, we kept in mind what flavors are used in the meal. For example, we chose lemon macarons because they felt like a perfect complement to the overall food menu.
Decide on the kind of dessert you want
Trophy makes cakes, cupcakes, mini cupcakes, mini tarts, and macarons… so we had a LOT of choices! We also had to decide if we wanted to do a traditional cake cutting or not. Ultimately, we have decided to set up a delicious dessert table with tiered cake stands of cupcakes and a tower of macarons! I’m so excited for how beautiful it will be… just wait til you see the photos after the wedding.

Drink water
While I have quite a sweet tooth, I was not prepared for the amount of sweets that would be placed in front of us to taste! SO MUCH SUGAR. I was in heaven, but also… my tummy was not stoked. One thing that really helped was for me to drink water in between different tastes.
Don’t eat the full serving
BTW you don’t have to finish the entire serving. Trophy was kind enough to pack up the leftovers so we could take them home and enjoy at our leisure.

We could not be more excited to share these special sweet treats with our guests in just 10 short days! Have you done wedding cake tasting and have tips to add to this list? Leave a comment and let me know.
