My Nighttime Skincare Routine (video)

Despite my guilty pleasure being YouTube tutorials on how to apply makeup, I don’t really wear a lot of it. Instead, I am all about skincare! For me, it’s a combination of enjoying trying new products, wanting to age well, and loving the process. My nighttime skincare routine is the ultimate wind down activity before bed. It forces me to slow down and take care of myself, something that might not always happen in the rush of the day. So today, I wanted to share my nighttime skincare routine with you in case you love beauty products as much as I do!

Every Step of My Nighttime Skincare Routine

Let me preface this post by saying that I’m aware skincare and beauty recommendations aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. That might not be why you come to my blog… I get it. But I am so nerdy and passionate about skincare that it feels the most authentic to ME to share that. I also plan to update this post as I evolve my nighttime skincare routine.

Step 1: Cleansing

If I am wearing makeup, I always use a facial wipe to remove as much of it as I can. I always buy whatever natural wipes I can find, so right now it’s these ones from Simple. After that, I follow up by washing my face. My favorite cleanser is the Strange Bird Beauty inner clarity cleanser because it’s got a very fine exfoliating scrub in it. Plus, it can double as a mask! I loooove how smooth this one makes my skin feel.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Once a week, I use this Glossier Solution to chemically exfoliate my face with Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), and Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA). I know people typically use this type of product more frequently, but I have found that my skin is too sensitive. I still want the glowy, anti-blemish benefits, so I use it sparingly.

Step 3: Toner

I’m not always totally convinced that toner does something… but I have actually noticed a difference in the moisture levels of my skin when I don’t use this Ceramidin Liquid. So I just keep using it!

Step 4: Serums

Someone one told me that serums are the most important part of your skincare routine — and I’ve really taken that to heart! I start with this Dr. Jart V7 Antioxidant Serum and press it into my skin. Usually, I let my skin dry before applying the next one. Admittedly… I’m impatient sometimes and just wanna go to bed.

Next, I layer on the Vinoperfect Anti Dark Spot Serum. I feel like this serum helps to reduce redness which is why I like it. After that, I use the inner balance serum from Strange Bird Beauty. This serum is actually the one where I noticed the biggest difference in my skin. One of the ingredients is Niacinamide, which is soooo good for combatting acne. My skin always responds well to that ingredient, so no wonder I love this serum so much.

Step 5: Moisturize

I’ve noticed my skin gets drier as I age, so I’ve tried out a LOT of moisturizers. Again, Strange Bird Beauty is a favorite! The Inner Light moisturizer is sooooo good and packed with great ingredients. It contains one of my favorite skincare must-haves, hyaluronic acid, which is wonderfully hydrating. Always trying to get more moisture in, I also add 2-3 drops of this 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil. I’ve shared why rose hip oil is so important in the past, but I especially love it because I think it helps blemishes heal faster.

Step 6: Eye Cream

Again, not entirely sure that eye cream does anything for me… but I’m going to keep using it and hope that I’m grateful for using it when I’m 70. Lately, I’ve been using this eye gel mostly because it doesn’t make my eyes sting as much as others do… and I REALLY like the packaging because it’s so much easier to apply the product. Is it weird to use a product just because you like the packaging??

Step 7: Spot Treatment

Ok and the LAST step: spot treatment! I am forever obsessed with this acne treatment gel because it works sooooo well. Just dab on the tiniest bit and it majorly helps blemishes disappear. I swear by this stuff!

So that’s my nighttime skincare routine! Now that I read it all back… it seems like I am very high maintenance. But, like I said… I really just love skincare and the self-care ritual it’s become for me.
