Any time someone asks me for outdoor furniture recommendations, I immediately direct them to Article. They’ve been a wonderful brand partner throughout the years, including our deck makeover a few years ago and this post from when they first launched and had a different brand name! I keep working with them and trusting their product because it’s so incredibly well-made — especially the outdoor furniture. There was literally nothing wrong with the furniture from the last time we partnered; I just wanted to have a larger outdoor dining table in preparation for summer. Keep in mind though… I wanted a larger outdoor dining area before COVID! *facepalm* Even though I haven’t been able to entertain in this newly finished space, we’re still absolutely loving the changes! Let’s take a tour and talk more about my design selections for our outdoor dining space and mini makeover.

Tour Our Updated Outdoor Dining Space!
As a reminder, here’s what our backyard looked like at the start of spring. Not exactly the prettiest… but now, I am SO happy with how it looks. It’s perfect for entertaining (…one day), grilling, and even working. Plus, I’ve turned our backyard into a plant-filled paradise which makes my heart so happy. Here’s a breakdown of all the details:

Our new outdoor dining table
My first priority in this mini makeover was to get a larger dining table. Even though our bungalow is tiny, we have a decently sized outdoor space, thankfully. The deck literally doubles our living area in the summer, so picking a big table is important. Ultimately, I chose the Teaka dining table for 6. It’s made of teak which is an amazing, sustainable material (Article’s teak is traceable and certifiably sourced). Teak is a material with gorgeous grain and literally gets better as it ages, turning into a silverly grey color. As for the table itself, it’s SO WELL-MADE. This thing is sturdy and heavy thanks to thick boards and chunky angled legs. I love how big of a statement it makes!
BTW in case you’re worried about getting furniture delivered now, Article is offering contactless delivery. Thats how our pieces were delivered and it was amazing. I stood on the other side of the French doors and it only took the team about 10 minutes to unload everything. Plus, I didn’t even need to sign. It was so smooth and I felt safe the entire time.

Colorful metal dining chairs
See that pink??? As soon as I saw the Caya outdoor dining armchair, I actually gasped. The pink was exactly the unexpected pop of color that I desperately wanted. And it’s quite a departure from my usual style (aka they aren’t blue). I balanced out the two pink chairs with four white ones on the sides. Each chair is made of metal that’s powder-coated. I love this material for outdoor furniture because it wears really well, especially during our rainy winter months here in Seattle.
Initially, I wanted the chairs that match the Teaka dining table, but they were a bit too large for our deck. I also wanted to change things up with color and material. The look of the Caya chair is modern, but elegant and sort of calls to mind European cafe vibes, don’t you think? Honestly, they just make me really, really happy!

A new umbrella, a much-needed addition
One thing I hate about our house is that there’s a 3 story apartment building next door. It literally towers over us and the tenants look out onto our patio area! Because of this, adding privacy was a big priority. We added the Paras umbrella in navy and it’s definitely helped. I also love that I can open it and have shade whenever I want — especially since I’ve been working outdoors during the day more and more!

Plus, a few decor pieces
Article always has really fun and affordable decor pieces that make any space feel more special. To add more ambiance and texture to our deck, I added 3 small Bori lanterns hanging from coordinating lantern stands. Each light is battery powered, so we can turn them on whenever we want! It’s great for nights when we’re sitting around the dining table, sipping wine and not wanting to go to bed.

I’ve also gone way overboard with my garden this year, so naturally I had to get a planter from Article, too. I chose the Silenn planter in white terrazzo for another pop of texture and subtle pattern. Right now, it’s home to my basil plants!

And lastly, you can never have enough pillows! I chose the Ebba Sargasso blue pillow set because I loved the mix of the patterns. They don’t tooootally go with the pink accents on the deck, so they usually live in the patio area around our fire pit. The pillows are that perfect level of filled, but not too filled and the fabric is surprisingly soft. When they came, I actually double-checked that I’d ordered outdoor pillows!

Maybe one day I’ll be able to entertain and have an outdoor dinner party… I’m still working on our new chicken yard + final touches on the patio, so keep an eye out for that. I’m leaning toward sharing another IGTV tour of the backyard, so leave a comment and let me know if you’re interested in that!
