Today’s blog post topic is definitely un-sexy, but a must for any homeowner: lawn care! To be totally honest, I have always loved yard work. Gardening, removing tree stumps, pulling weeds… I love it. I’m weird, what can I say? But when it comes to actually growing grass, I always left that up to Sean. But now that our bungalow is on the market, we had to really focus on making the yard look as amazing as possible! We did a ton of research about sod, then installed it. So today I’ve teamed up with Amazon Home to share a few lawn care tips we have learned! They make it so easy to get everything you need in one place.

Easy Lawn Care Tips To Make Your Backyard an Oasis

Since we’re all spending more time at home, having an amazing backyard to relax in is an absolute must… and shopping on Amazon makes it so easy and safe. As someone with a pre-existing condition, it’s been so crucial to be able to order what we need. Plus, with Prime shipping I know I’ll have what I need within 2 days. I was amazed by the variety of home improvement products and tools that Amazon has.

Put down sod

Lush green grass has always felt like a myth to me because I always felt like it required so much effort! I’m definitely not a lawn care expert, but installing sod wasn’t hard at all. There are just a few steps needed in order to prep the area… and a lot of water. After we installed the sod, I couldn’t help but wonder why we didn’t do it sooner! It feels amazing to walk barefoot on and the dogs are obsessed with it.

Invest in a high-quality mower

This tip is actually a really big one! To maintain a nice lawn, you really need to have a good mower. I’m a big fan of the Greenworks 40V 20-Inch Cordless Twin Force Lawn Mower for a ton of reasons:

  • Cordless — I looove being able to mow the lawn without worrying about if we have fuel or if I’m going to run over a power cord for the mower (it’s happened). Electric mowers are the absolute best. Plus, this mower has two batteries, so it’s got the range to help you finish the project no matter the size of your yard. It will run for 70 minutes!
  • Lightweight — this mower isn’t super heavy or too light… just right for someone my size to use (I’m about 5’6), which makes it easy to maneuver or move around
  • Dual blade — this feature ensures better cut quality and mulching

Upgrading to a cordless electric mower has been a total game-changer and I can maintain the sod so nicely.

Fertilize as needed

I grew up in a household that used Miracle-Gro religiously — because it works SO well. I was excited to try out this organic All-Purpose plant food this summer, especially in my vegetable garden. Because of how well it has fed the plants and kept them happy, we officially have what we’re calling “The Tomato Tree.” I have literally never grown tomatoes this big before! The packaging for the Miracle-Gro plant food is wonderful, too. It makes it so easy to sprinkle it on as needed. Definitely a must-have food for plants!

Protect yourself!

I am definitely THE person that bugs flock to. If there’s a mosquito within a mile radius, it will find me and leave me covered in giant, itchy welts. So, every time I do yard work, I make sure to apply a bug spray. This summer, I’m loving the Repel Insect Repellent Family Dry bug spray. The best feature is that it goes on dry, meaning that you don’t feel sticky… or even like you have anything on at all! It’s super lightweight and, most importantly, it works. Also, it doesn’t have a scent, which is so pleasant.
