It’s finally here!! I could not be more excited to share the reveal of our cabin guest bedroom makeover… especially because it means that we’re officially able to welcome guests to our new home in comfort and style. There are SO many details that went into our guest room from ripping up carpet to painting everything to incorporating chic affordable decor from Better Homes & Gardens exclusively at Walmart. Let’s take a tour, shall we?

Before & After: Our PNW Cabin Guest Bedroom Makeover Reveal
I’m working on a full blog post about ALL of the details of this cozy guest bedroom makeover, but for now let’s talk about the affordable decor that I sourced from Better Homes & Gardens exclusively at Walmart. I want to start here because, as you know, we’re on a tight budget with pretty much all of the renovations here at the cabin… and because styling a space is always my fave part! Especially when it comes to playing host to guests. I absolutely love setting the stage for a comfy, cozy stay in my home for any visitor.

Before photos
As a reminder, here’s where the room started! The walls were a boring grey and very badly dinged. It was carpeted (and smelled horrible), really dark, and lacked charm. But now it’s actually one of my favorite rooms in the entire house! Let’s dig into all of the details:

Bedding, pillows and curtains
As a former textile designer, I always start with bedding because I just love it so much. We used a lot of the same pieces from our old home in this room (more on that to come!), so I wanted to bring in a few affordable things to refresh it. For example, I chose a set of sheets with a skinny blue stripe to brighten up our existing navy blue duvet cover. I also broke up the sea of blue with a white waffle texture blanket. It’s great for chilly nights!

As always, I love the selection of pillows Better Homes & Gardens exclusively at Walmart. This handsome buffalo check pillow brings in a touch of cabin vibes, while the fringe pillow is a lovely neutral element.
Instead of making the space darker with curtains, I chose a set of sheers for the large window. They give the guest room privacy without blocking light (and the view of trees). I especially love them because they have the sweetest little detail of jute on the edges. Special details like that matter so much!

Storage
The closet in the guest bedroom is a bit odd. At some point, someone put in a fake wall to create two tiny closets with a wide opening. I dedicated the left side to be a closet where guests can hang their clothes with these non-slip hangers, plus a fabric bin to hold whatever they need. Then, on the right side, I used the same bins to hold extra towels. I always feel like a guest room needs a full length mirror, so I chose this leaning mirror to act as a visual block from the towels (and because we keep our vacuum there, too!).

I also added yet another set of my favorite set of hooks. I have at least 4 of these in the cabin — they’re just SO good. Sturdy, stylish, and really affordable. I felt like guests would appreciate a place to hang clothes, bags, etc. Plus, it’s a great place to hang the robe I put out for guests to use if they feel like it.

Special touches
Beyond anything else, I wanted our cabin’s guest bedroom to be comfortable. Which is why I worked hard to included thoughtful elements in this space specifically! For example, the adorable fan is makes for a great way to cool down the room as needed while also acting as white noise. I also split up the set of these adorable stools to give guests a place to perch while putting on socks. I’m obsessed with the pop of red.

Can you believe this vintage nightstand I scored?? It’s the perfect spot for a reading lamp for guests. I chose this specific lamp because it has a USB slot so our guests can easily plug in their devices to charge. I also really love the handsomeness it adds to the space.

Before & After: Our Upstairs Landing Turned Reading Nook
In an afternoon, I was able to revamp this awkward loft area at the top of our stairs — while also creating a reading nook to help bring one of my 2021 goals to life. I’m a big reader, so creating a library of sorts is the perfect way to dive into that love even more! Plus, almost everything came from the Better Homes & Gardens collection exclusively at Walmart, so it was an affordable makeover to pull off.
