I am SO excited about this reveal today! I’ve hinted at it a few times, but this is the first glimpse you’ll see of the Poconos cabin my best friend recently bought and asked me to style. One of her goals was to purchase a rental property where she and her family could also escape city life and enjoy themselves. It’s been a tough year for her thanks to COVID and raising twins during it, so I wanted to do something nice for her, but from afar. So when my friends from Better Homes & Gardens exclusively at Walmart challenged me to makeover a space in 30 minutes, I knew it was time to treat Danielle to something special!

Before & After: 30 Minute Poconos Cabin Bedroom Refresh
Before Photos
Before we dig deeper into the details of the makeover, let’s review the before photos!
Danielle bought this cabin in October 2021 from an owner who had lived there since the ’80s. Throughout the holiday season, she and her family worked so hard to clear out stuff and plan future renovations. Thankfully, they took a little bit of time off to explore the local attractions including Lake Harmony. And just last week they were able to finally welcome their first guests at their Poconos rental!
The decor was a bit dated and don’t even get me started on the wallpaper (one day, they might paint it depending on budget). But because this is their second home, they needed to get it immediately ready to share as a short-term rental. That’s where I came in to help!

The Moodboard
You know me, I am SUCH a planner. To make sure Danielle was onboard with the design plan, I created this moodboard. This also helps us to see how each piece works together, even with the existing pieces.

Makeover Reveal
Since this was only supposed to be a 30 minute makeover, we focused on 3 main areas to spruce up the cabin bedroom: the bed, the nightstands, and a reading nook. Let’s break down the design details about each space in this cozy Poconos cabin rental:
All new bedding
Because it’s a rental, we wanted to make sure the bedroom was as cozy and cabin chic as possible! We took inspiration from the vintage ski print above the bed and pulled in red tones with this new comforter set. The texture is SO good and helps to elevate the overall look. Plus, it’s machine washable so it’s easy to clean in between guests at the cabin. I LOVE the drama it brings to the space.

We also updated the bedding with these 100% cotton wrinkle free sheets. We use them in our guest room as well and they’re always a hit with visitors! The fabric feels luxurious and they wash so well — both things are very important for a rental property.
When it came to choosing decorative pillows, I kept it simple and chose just one teddy plush throw pillow. If you’ll remember, we also have this pillow in our cabin as well… that’s how much I love it! I immediately knew that Danielle’s Poconos cabin needed one.

New side tables and lighting
We also decided to update the nightstand situation with these modern side tables. I love the pop of black metal so that they stand out more and make a statement. Plus, they are larger than the previous ones, so guests have more room to keep books, chargers, etc.
Then, for bedside lighting, we chose weathered wood accent lamps. I love the faceted shape of them, plus that pop of wood is perfect for cabin vibes.

A cozy reading nook
The loft bedroom had an awkward corner, so we included one of the chairs left by the previous owner in order to save time and money. We spruced up this corner by adding a new buffalo plaid pillow to give it a bit more style. Then we added a modern floor lamp in case someone wants to sit there and read.
We added a faux plant just for a bit of green, too. I would have loved to include real plants, but because this is a rental, faux makes more sense.

We still have a few finishing touches left to go like installing a vintage rug and maybe hanging a bit more vintage artwork and ephemera. But for now, I think it looks fab!
