With more and more people spending time at home, getting creative with your date nights is the perfect way to bring the romance to you. Because we live so remotely, Sean and I choose to have date night at home typically. Dating your spouse, significant other, or partner can be as easy as spending the night in your own home doing something fun and different from your usual routine. Plus, it’s budget-friendly and easy to do on a whim! To get you inspired (even without Valentine’s Day on the horizon), here are some of my favorite cute date ideas at home.
What are the Benefits of At-Home Date Nights?
For many couples, finding the time, energy, or even the finances for a night out can be difficult. But completely ditching date night altogether isn’t viable either because you and your partner deserve uninterrupted time together. We make sure to carve out time just for us whenever possible.
So why can having a date night at home be amazing for your relationship?
You’ll save yourself money. Staying in means you’ll be saving major money. You can eat in instead of going out, throw on your favorite flick on the tv instead of catching a movie, and generally spend more time doing meaningful activities together in the most important space in your life – your home.
Date nights at home are 10x more intimate. You don’t have to worry about PDA – ever! But more importantly, you don’t have to put your relationship on display. In the privacy of your home, you can feel comfortable and take time to get closer to your spouse or partner without the tendency to put walls up in a public place.
Date nights at home are convenient and relaxing. There is no pressure to look your best or take up unnecessary time getting to your destination. Grab your favorite pjs and head to the living room for a night of relaxed fun with your favorite person! I meannnn, you can get fancied up, but we like to keep things casual typically.
Why Should You Date Your Spouse?
When is the last time you dated your spouse? This is a serious question! I think it can be so easy to fall into the day-to-day of life and lose sight of connection. When life gets busy and we live in the fast lane, we can forget to slow down and appreciate the person who stood by us through it all. Dating your partner/significant other/spouse is important to keep your communication open and your intimacy flowing.
Need more reasons to date your spouse? Just remember these simple things and we guarantee you’ll be wanting to schedule those date nights as frequently as possible!
- Your spouse is your friend. They know you better than anyone else, so give them the time they deserve one-on-one. It feels so silly to say this, but I think it’s easy to fall into complaining about your partner. So a reminder is always nice.
- Date nights break up the routine. Life can become monotonous, especially when you live in a rural setting like us! Make it better by taking the time to date your person and setting aside special time.
- Experiences together create a connection. Having your own hobbies is important, but coming together to share experiences creates unforgettable memories.
- Date nights show you value your partner. We spend time on the things we love and value the most. You should ALWAYS include your significant other on your list of things you value in your life.
- Relationships are not static. They take time, commitment, and connection to continue to grow positively… people are constantly changing and evolving, and so are relationships!
5 Date Ideas at Home I’m Obsessing Over!
Have I convinced you to step outside the box of “traditional date nights” and give an at home date night a try yet?? I’ve pulled together some fun date ideas you can try at home with your partner. These are some of my favorite budget-friendly, cute date ideas that are perfect for any time of the year. Let’s dig in!
Movie Night
Whether you are throwing on Netflix on the couch or setting up a projector in the backyard to show a screening of your favorite flick, movie night at home can be fun and intimate for you and your partner.
Grab your favorite movie theatre candy and get the popcorn popping! Make this the coziest date ever with a comfy pair of pjs, slippers, and a warm blanket for both of you to snuggle up in. Movie night is the perfect way to end a stressful work week or a way to spend extra time together once the kids are tucked away in bed. And doesn’t require a ton of planning!
Board Game Night
When is the last time you challenged your partner to a good old fashioned board game? There are so many options on the market these days and you can find just about any category of games to indulge in. When we bought the cabin, I stocked up on a bunch of different types of games. Here is some of what I planned:
Feeling traditional? Try your hand at Chess, Backgammon, or Scrabble.
Feeling competitive? Trivial Pursuit, Risk, or Monopoly may be up your alley.
Feeling cooperative? Try a murder mystery game where you work together to solve a crime.
Make board game night even more fun by indulging in your favorite appetizers and drinks! We have TONS of amazing cocktail recipes to try, btw (and mocktails, too)!
Spa Night
This fun date idea gives you and your partner the ultimate chance to relax and indulge in one another. Spa night is not just for you and your girlfriends! You can spice it up and make it a romantic date night at home.
You can take turns giving each other a massage or a foot rub. It’s also fun to indulge in face masks. You can set the mood with candles and soak in a hot bath together. Do couples yoga together to relax and unwind. Enjoy light bites and wine throughout the evening.
Online Cooking Classes Together
Thanks to the pandemic, we are used to doing so many more things online. Trying a virtual class together may be the perfect new thing to do with your partner. For this fun date idea, I suggest you grab your partner and try Julia Turshen’s classes.
At just $40 per class, these cooking classes are super affordable and offer you and your partner a signature experience from the comfort of your home. Plus, you get an experience and a meal rolled into one! Julia’s recipes are always soooo tasty, too.
Camp in Your Living Room
Grab your favorite sleeping bag, blankets, and pillows, and head into the living room! You are never too old for a sleepover – especially with your significant other! Camping out in your living room can be fun and silly, giving you both the opportunity to rekindle your inner child and stay up long into the night spending quality time with one another.
Plus, camping out in your living room can easily be combined with a game night or movie night!
