We could all use a bit of levity in our lives right about now… so it felt like the perfect time to introduce our new chicks and tell you all about them! I’ve wanted to add to our flock of backyard chickens pretty much as soon as we got them. But I vowed that the next time I added, I would get chicks instead of pullets (which are like teenaged chickens). I wanted the experience of raising chickens from babies and handling them a lot so they are more tame. It’s definitely been an adventure, especially since the 6 baby chicks currently live in our house with us. That brings the total to 2 dogs, 1 cat, 2 humans, and 6 chicks in 640 sqft. Keep reading to meet each one and find out their names!Continue reading “Meet Our New Chicks!”
Are you doing tons of projects at home these days? With the emergence of spring here in Seattle (finally) and our shelter in place order, we’ve been trying to make the most of our home — all without really going to the hardware store! The area we’re focusing our attention on the most is the backyard. Why does it always feel like we’re updating that space?? I think because the winters here are pretty hard on the patio… all that rain. I shortened the list recently, but here’s my backyard design to do list for the next few months!Continue reading “My Backyard Design Plans + What It Currently Looks Like (Video)”
I’m not exactly someone who decorates a theme Christmas tree, but I do like to hang a variety of ornaments that are inspired by my interests… like chickens! Sean doesn’t really participate in the decorating (more on that here), so the decisions are left to me. As always, I’m a chicken lady at heart. So I’ve been on the lookout for chicken ornaments to add to my collection… and there are so many! Here’s some of what I found that have me questioning the difference between ‘want’ and ‘need.’Continue reading “18 Chicken Ornaments I Want/Need”
Um, HELLO! It’s time for another favorite gift guide… holiday present ideas for the chicken lady. Now, I know this may not apply to all of you, but I bet you anything you’ve got a friend or family member who is chicken-obsessed — even if he or she doesn’t actually have chickens currently. There’s just something about those feathered weirdos that captures the heart. Or at least that’s what happened for me!Continue reading “Ultimate Gifts for the Chicken Lady”
Sometimes I feel like there’s a split between what I share here on the blog and what I share on Instagram… specifically our backyard chickens! In an effort to be more transparent about every facet of our life AND to make life a little easier on myself, I’ve been trying to merge to the two more and more. Plus, apparently consistency is good for this blogging and social media thing? ANYWHOO. I get sooo many questions about how to keep backyard chickens, so it was high time for me to dig in and answer ’em all for you.Continue reading “Q&A #6: All About Our Backyard Chickens”
Honestly, I should have shared a chicken lady gift guide last year, but the thought didn’t occur to me! Now that I’ve befriend Kate from Drinking With Chickens (hopefully not against her will), it felt appropriate to curate a gift guide with her in mind. After all, she’s answered countless texts and Instagram videos from me about all the weird crap my chickens get up to… The least I could do is dedicate a gift guide to all the chicken ladies out there. Oh, and maybe include a shameless plug for her newly launched shop!
This post is a bit of a departure from our everyday content, but I hope you enjoy it! In case you’ve been living under a rock (aka not following my Instagram Stories), we’ve had backyard chickens for almost a year. I regularly share them on Instagram as #chickentv and have really come to love the humor and eggs that they bring to our life here at the tiny bungalow. So many of you have asked for help getting your own flock and which resources worked best for us as we were learning, so I thought it was about time for a blog post about them!
