I know we’re still in the beginning stages of gift guide season, but I couldn’t help myself: it’s time to discuss gifts for chicken lovers! This is literally my FAVE gift guide to curate every year (check out 2019 and 2018!). I know it’s super specific, but I am convinced we all have a chicken lover in our life! Let’s dig in.
Disclosure: For this post, I received products to review from Cutest Coops. All opinions are my own and always will be! Thanks for supporting content that keeps Jojotastic going.
Trust me when I say this: I am incredibly picky when it comes to chicken coops. We’ve gone through 3 in 3 years! When I think back to the very first chicken coop we had, WOOF. It was a wreck. The coop was a hand-me-down from a friend and definitely on it’s last legs. Then for the One Room Challenge, we invested in another coop that was locally made… and then promptly hated it! It was poorly constructed, offered no insulation for the winter months, and the chicken run was impossible to clean out. So when I discovered Cutest Coops, my mouth literally dropped open. Without hyperbole, they are actually the cutest coops. Earlier this spring, they sent me their new Charming Coop so that we could have room for all the new baby chicks. After about 4-5 months of using our coop, I wanted to share a full review of Cutest Coops and share why they are so darn special!
We could all use a bit of levity in our lives right about now… so it felt like the perfect time to introduce our new chicks and tell you all about them! I’ve wanted to add to our flock of backyard chickens pretty much as soon as we got them. But I vowed that the next time I added, I would get chicks instead of pullets (which are like teenaged chickens). I wanted the experience of raising chickens from babies and handling them a lot so they are more tame. It’s definitely been an adventure, especially since the 6 baby chicks currently live in our house with us. That brings the total to 2 dogs, 1 cat, 2 humans, and 6 chicks in 640 sqft. Keep reading to meet each one and find out their names!
Are you doing tons of projects at home these days? With the emergence of spring here in Seattle (finally) and our shelter in place order, we’ve been trying to make the most of our home — all without really going to the hardware store! The area we’re focusing our attention on the most is the backyard. Why does it always feel like we’re updating that space?? I think because the winters here are pretty hard on the patio… all that rain. I shortened the list recently, but here’s my backyard design to do list for the next few months!
I’m not exactly someone who decorates a theme Christmas tree, but I do like to hang a variety of ornaments that are inspired by my interests… like chickens! Sean doesn’t really participate in the decorating (more on that here), so the decisions are left to me. As always, I’m a chicken lady at heart. So I’ve been on the lookout for chicken ornaments to add to my collection… and there are so many! Here’s some of what I found that have me questioning the difference between ‘want’ and ‘need.’
Um, HELLO! It’s time for another favorite gift guide… holiday present ideas for the chicken lady. Now, I know this may not apply to all of you, but I bet you anything you’ve got a friend or family member who is chicken-obsessed — even if he or she doesn’t actually have chickens currently. There’s just something about those feathered weirdos that captures the heart. Or at least that’s what happened for me!
Sometimes I feel like there’s a split between what I share here on the blog and what I share on Instagram… specifically our backyard chickens! In an effort to be more transparent about every facet of our life AND to make life a little easier on myself, I’ve been trying to merge to the two more and more. Plus, apparently consistency is good for this blogging and social media thing? ANYWHOO. I get sooo many questions about how to keep backyard chickens, so it was high time for me to dig in and answer ’em all for you.
