Even though I live with it every day (and complain about it just as frequently on Instagram Stories), I feel like you guys are owed a full progress report about our kitchen renovation! Truthfully, the construction has slowed down a bit as we wait for key elements to arrive. Can you believe that my goal was to reveal the new kitchen on November 14? Yeah, that’s definitely not going to happen as you’ll see in all of these photos. I’ve learned so much during this process, though… maybe our next renovation will be on time? This post isn’t the most glamorous, but I couldn’t help myself. You all have been such a big part of this project, especially on Instagram, that I wanted to give you a peek at what the status is.

You’ve probably seen by now that Sean and I are in the midst of completely renovating our kitchen with the help of my dear friend and amazing designer, Sarah, from Room for Tuesday (to catch up on the renovation process, click here). I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am for the completed space. Our kitchen has been a thorn in my side since moving into #mytinybungalow, so demoing it to pieces felt extremely satisfying. With a kitchen renovation, though, comes a ton of decision making, especially when it comes to new appliances. And I don’t know if you’ve ever browsed through the appliance section at your local box store or cruised them online, but –holy wow- are there a lot of choices and options. If you are in this boat too (or will be soon), I have a few tips I want to share that can hopefully help you feel a little less overwhelmed by the process and understand why we chose KitchenAid appliances to make our kitchen look and feel like the space we have been dreaming about since we bought our home!

Being totally transparent, I was a bit scared to choose a cabinetry style. My biggest concern is the risk that we would choose something that feels dated in a few years or too much of a trend — especially because new cabinetry is such a big portion of any renovation budget. I went into this project without many opinions as to which type I prefer or if I even wanted wood or color finish! When Sarah presented her Tuxedo kitchen plan, I immediately knew it was right for us and our home… and felt an immediate sense of relief that we could keep it simple and go with black and white! But then it became question of which cabinet door style to choose. Our sponsor, MasterBrand Cabinets, has numerous options to choose from under several semi- to fully-customizable product lines, so we took an afternoon to scroll through and pick some favorites. I almost feel like an expert in cabinet styles at this point because I’ve looked at so many. For this reason, I’ve been able to narrow down to 5 kitchen cabinet door styles that feel timeless and will never go out of style!

Oddly enough, one of the most intense debates that Sean and I have had over the kitchen renovation is about lighting! Apparently, we both have a lot of opinions when it comes to the finishes, shape, size, and location of the lighting. Who knew? Anyways, thankfully our lighting sponsor, Rejuvenation, has everything we need (and more) to choose lighting that will make both of us happy and compliment Sarah’s gorgeous design plan. Here are some of the options we considered + the combo we ultimately chose.
Our kitchen renovation is rolling right along. Currently, we’re working on updating the electrical work and removing the old knob and tube wiring, then comes leveling the floor. But let’s talk about something a little bit more fun and way prettier: material selections! Sarah, aka Room for Tuesday, has worked really hard to narrow down the finishes, textures, and materials for our kitchen remodel and they are truly stunning. Today I wanted to share some of our thinking about the choices and give you a glimpse into how it’s coming together so far.
p.s. be sure to follow me on Instagram because I’ve been sharing soooo much behind-the-scenes footage of our renovation.
After watching nearly every episode of Fixer Upper, I couldn’t wait until it was our turn to smash the kitchen… and what a day it was. With my pink hard hat on, I was so ready to peek inside the walls of our 110 year old house. When we renovated the bedroom, there was a small amount of demo involved, but this is the first time that I’ve ever gotten to rip apart this big of a space. Let’s just say it was extremely therapeutic…!
