my tiny bungalow // stand-alone closet alternatives

Here’s the deal: I bought a tiny house that doesn’t have a single closet. Seriously, not a single one. Legally, a house has to have a closet for a bedroom to count as a bedroom, so the sellers included a janky stand alone armoire that I was afraid would give me tetanus if I looked at it too closely. Upon moving in, I immediately removed that eyesore, which left me with nowhere to hang my clothes. I’ve since started using this basic chrome rolling rack from Uline, but it’s not the most visually appealing. If you’ve been following along on my Pinterest board called My Tiny Bungalow, you can see I’ve been researching options for stand-alone closet alternatives. I can’t quite afford to built an actual closet yet, but in the meantime there are TONS of awesome options:

I do like the idea of a rolling rack, just one that’s a bit more stylish. Urban Outfitters has lots of really great options right now like this Leaning clothing rack, this double clothing rack, or this industrial storage rack. I think these options work best for those of you with a capsule wardrobe. While I’ve done my fair share of purging, I’m not exactly a pared-down-capsule-uniform kind of gal. My clothes rarely fall into a single color palette, so I worry that this option might look a little chaotic.

Then there’s the option of an armoire, just a more sturdy one than what the sellers kindly left behind for me. I like this option because it equals closed storage… meaning that I won’t be laying in bed, always with a view of my clothing. I’m not the neatest person in the world, so this option is really appealing. I also love that these are such statement pieces, especially this lacquered Regency armoire and this bone inlay armoire from Anthropologie — don’t they feel a bit like modern heirlooms?

I love the industrial storage rack from Urban Outfitters! However, I agree that closed storage is probably a better option! As for the armories, I am partial to the Estilo Cabinet from Crate and Barrel. The texture of the wood laid in the herringbone pattern is just gorgeous.

The inlay armoire is gorgeous! (And I like the mirrored doors – seems like for such a potentially bulky piece of furniture mirrors would lighten it up a bit?)

I love that one, too! Yeah, I do worry that these pieces can be bulky, but love your idea of mirrors.
