my search for stylish house numbers

Up until I broke my leg, my plan for the house was to make the exterior look as good as the interior has been. While that project is somewhat stalled at the moment, I cam still able to think of smaller details, like house numbers. Have you noticed that so many of them are straight up terrible?? Why are they all so ugly? Recently, I did an internet deep dive and unearthed a few really gorgeous options for stylish house numbers. I know I can’t be the only one in this predicament, so hopefully this guide will help you, too!

I’ve really struggled with the type of finish I want. My front door is black, so I love the idea of a black metal finish if the numbers are mounted on my white siding. But I’m also really digging brass because that would match the door hardware and our door knocker.

Font choice is really important here, too. Is your home’s vibe more traditional? Modern? Eclectic? Mine is a bungalow, so I want a font that feels a bit more relaxed, but still somewhat traditional. I went to design school, so I tend to be quite snobby about the font of the numbers. I don’t want anything too funky. While shopping for house numbers online, I am constantly pulling the photos to my desktop and Photoshopping together the ones that match my house to make sure they look good together. I’ve noticed that 6 and 4 are tricky numbers to get right. Definitely make sure to look at those first if you have them in your address.

There are tons of material choices for house numbers, too: iron, brass, even ceramic. I really love the specialness that ceramic adds to house numbers. It’s definitely a good way to look different from everyone else in the ‘hood!

How cool are these house numbers that are also planter boxes?? Kind of genius.

I’m still working on what my overall look will be for the exterior of the house, but in the mean time making design decisions like this has been fun. Which of these options is your favorite?
