Ever since the start of sheltering in place, I’ve admittedly been indulging in wine more. I blame the fact this is summer now and our patio is finally settled enough to sit outside and sip rosé! In order to reduce the number of grocery store outings we have to do, I decided to try Winc, a wine delivery service that I’ve seen tons of ads for on Instagram. A friend of mine swears by it, so I signed up using her code which got me a few free bottles. I figured it was free to try, so why not… and now, I am here to tell you that I am OBSESSED. This is not a sponsored post — I simply want to share with you a service that I’ve been loving lately! I will say, if you do sign up, I get credits for my account to get more wine. But you will also get $22 off your first order, so win-win!

What is Winc?

It’s a modern, personalized wine club, basically. The team at Winc curates hundreds of different types of wine in order to make wine simpler to get and easier to enjoy (yes, please). Founded in 2012, the founders Xander Oxman and Geoff McFarlane teamed up with winemaker and sommelier Brian Smith to make the wine club even more personalized — and now it’s grown into a California-based winery. All of the bottles are Winc brand and available to shop online.

How does Winc wine delivery work?

When you first since up for Winc, you’ll fill out a Palate profile. Basically, it’s their way of getting to know you and what types of wine you enjoy the most. It’s only 6 questions, so it doesn’t take too long to get started. From there, you’ll receive recommendations for wines that their experts believe will match your palate. After you’ve actually ordered wines, you can rate them to fine-tune the recommendations more and more.

In terms of ordering, each month you’re automatically charged for credits in order to buy the wine. Each bottle you add to cart will be applied to those credits (same with referral credits). You can always skip a month, just make sure that you update your account by a certain time. Also, you can tell Winc how many of which type of wine you want each month. Right now, I default to 2 reds and 2 whites a month, but you can increase or decrease as needed. Plus, if you order 12+ bottles, you get a 10% discount on the entire order.

The only complaint I have about Winc so far has been that the shipping can sometimes take quite a bit of time. Some of that is due to the limitations right now due to COVID. When I first signed up, it was just the start of quarantine and it look over 2 weeks to get my first box! The shipping has definitely gotten faster though, so this is really a minimal complaint.

What does each bottle cost?

Each bottle has its own price. The most affordable I’ve seen is $12.99 and it goes up to $39.99 if you want to get fancy about it. The quality is so good that I’ve never been disappointed in any of the more affordable wines!

What are the best wines from Winc?

It’s kinda tough to list them all because Winc is constantly updating their offerings and selling out. There’s literally SO much to choose from, but here are bottles I’ve really enjoyed:

  • 2019 Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy Sauvignon Blanc
  • Eplevin Gravenstein Cider — yes, they also have cider sometimes, too! This one isn’t too sweet and the flavor is beautifully subtle. It’s so perfect for summer.
  • 2019 Alma Libre® Carménère
  • 2018 Sapore Locale Nero d’Avola

There are tons of options available on Winc, too. Vegan, sustainable, low sugar, natural, organic… and more! It’s also easy to shop based on the type of wine you usually like, region, and sweetness level.

Why I love this specific wine delivery service

There are actually quite a few reasons why I enjoy Winc as much as I do. First, the design and aesthetic of the bottles is top-notch. Each label is beautifully designed, as is the packaging, all messagings about the wines… everything. I’m definitely a detail-oriented person, so their attention to detail means a lot to me.

It’s also really fun to try new wines, but not have to belabor the decision of what to buy at the store. I always get really overwhelmed when trying to pick a bottle… like I never quite know if I’m going to love what I buy or not. With Winc, I have only been mildly disappointed in one wine and that was because it was sweeter than I usually like. Everything else that’s been recommended has been so good. I love when a new box arrives because it means a few days of trying out something new!

And lastly, I love Winc because it’s actually taught me a lot about wine! They do a great job of educating, but without being too serious. I’ve learned so much more about the types of wine I enjoy. Plus, they also offer food pairing suggestions! My favorite was the booklet that came with my first bottle that breaks down the notes and types of wine.

So that’s my Winc review! Again, this is not a sponsored post at all. You know I always disclose that kind of thing. I would definitely love to work with them… but that’s a conversation for another day. HA. Do you subscribe to Winc and love it? Let me know what you think! And also if you love any other food or wine subscription boxes, leave a comment. I’m kind of addicted to trying these types of services now!
