Monthly Life Update, March 2022

Stay updated on my latest adventures!
Happy Wife, Happy Life chocolate cake from Julia Turshen, chocolate birthday cake. A quick life update about my health, our cabin, our pets, my business, and more.

Well, March certainly came and went VERY quickly! My birthday was on the 18th (that’s a picture of my cake — recipe is from Julia Turshen’s cookbook) which was a fun way to sort of break up the month. The first signs of spring are finally showing themselves here in the Skagit Valley. It’s been so nice having longer days, perfect for taking walks to our local creek. Here’s a bit more about what our life was like in the month of March!

The Tiny Zoo

It’s spring… which means there is a new addition to our flock! I recently got two baby Sebastopol goslings! Originally, I was thinking I wanted ducks. But then I learned about how geese are great for protecting your chickens from predators. Plus, they are just really funny to me. So we got geese!

I’m absolutely obsessed with them and shocked by how much they differ from raising chickens. First, I find them to be wayyy more engaged. They make eye contact and talk to me! Also, you have to teach the to swim which is literally the highlight of my day. Nothing makes me giggle more than them splashing around in the bathtub.

I’m thinking about writing a post dedicated to raising goslings and sharing how our brooder is set up, etc. Would you be interested in that??

My Health

No news is good news! Yay!

The Cabin

We’ve been working on getting the house more settled indoors so that we can put our energy into the outdoor space this spring and summer. Ever since we swapped my office into the gear room and changed that space into a TV room, there’s been stuff everyyyywhere. Add that to the furniture from our bedroom being in the living room while we installed the flooring… and I was going nuts. So basically, every day after I wrap up work, I try to spend at least an hour or two putting things away and getting organized. I’ve definitely noticed that it’s helping my mood a TON.

I’ve also been working on starting my seedlings for our garden… with mixed results. I’ve never started our vegetable plants from seed before and it’s proving to be a learning experience. While our living room has TONS of skylights, I am a bit more aware of how grey our days are and how that affected my starts. And maybe it isn’t warm enough? Not sure, but at least it’s been a fun learning experience!

Business + My Blog

Early spring is a pretty quiet time of year for me, which is actually very welcome this year. I’ve enjoyed the slightly slower pace so I can focus on projects around the house and planning future business ventures. One of my big goals this year is to identify more passive streams of income, like selling an online product or maybe an e-book or two, so that I can still make money while taking time off!

Us

Things have been pretty chaotic for the past few months, but we’re hoping that things can be a bit calmer since the house is more settled. Also since it’s gotten warmer, we’re outside together more which is when we’re always at our best. I’m really looking forward to spending more time with Sean working on our yard and enjoying having so much outdoor space!

So that’s a snapshot of what life’s been like for us in the month of March! As always, thank you so much for following along on our journey and being so wonderfully supportive of everything I share here and on social media.
