My Holy Grail Winter Skincare Products

It took me awhile to figure out how to make my skin soft and happy during the cold, drying winter months. Now that I have a good routine, I feel like I finally have it on lock though! It took a bit of trial and error, but I have a group of winter skincare products that can be classified as nothing other than ‘holy grail.’ Also, side note: does anyone else feel like suchhh a beauty Youtube-r when using that phrase? Something about it makes me feel silly, but also in-the-know at the same time.

My Favorite Winter Skincare Products to Combat Dry Skin

Body

More than any other part, my body’s skin tends to get the driest in the winter — especially on my legs. For some reason, my legs tends to get dry and flaky (sorry if that’s TMI!), but now that I finally have a good routine they are smooth and soft. My winter skincare routine starts with the soap I use in the shower. I’ve been loving this Jason body wash. I bought it on a whim because I was looking for a natural body wash that smelled good, but also didn’t dry out my skin… which is shockingly hard to find! Sean uses Dr. Bronner’s, but my skin was positively revolting against it and getting drier and drier each time I used it. I knew I had to make a change. I haven’t noticed that the Jason body wash dries me out and, honestly, I just really love how it smells. I use it with these extra long exfoliating bath cloths (read more about my obsession with them) to buff off dry skin and exfoliate a bit.

After I shower, I immediately moisturize. My favorite, absolute must-have lotion is the Aesop Rejuvenate Intensive Body Balm. Again, it smells incredible, but it’s just straight up works. I’ve never had a lotion that leaves my skin this soft and is so incredibly nourishing. I tried to stop using the lotion for a while because it is quite expensive, but nothing that I’ve found has been able to surpass it. So I splurge in the winter months and just deal with it.

Also, and I cannot stress this enough, drinking enough water is absolutely crucial to maintaining soft, hydrated skin in the winter!

Hands

My hands also tend to get realllllly dry in the winter, so I apply a ton of cream to them in the evenings before bed. If it’s really bad, like to the point where my cuticles are cracking, I will moisturize and then put cotton socks over my hands to seal in the lotion. I keep a number of hand creams on my nightstand, but currently my top two are Aesop Rind Concentrate Body Balm and Huxley Hand Cream.

Face

I’m pretty lucky that my facial skin doesn’t get too dry in the winter, but I still make sure I use extra-moisturizing products. After cleansing in the morning, I have been loving Osmia purely simple face cream*. It absorbs quickly and makes my skin freaking glow.

Then in the evenings, I go for a more in depth routine. For my toner step, I’m a big fan of the Dr. Jart Ceramidin Liquid*. Then I apply my serums. After that, I mix 3 drops of Osmia nectar vital rose drops* with a pea size amount of Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream. I take the time to really mix those two together in my hands then rub it into my skin. If I feel particularly dry, I’ll finish with Dr. Jart Water Fuse Hydro Sleep Mask. I really pile it on  (probably 2-3 pumps) and my skin feels like a baby in the morning!

As for my lips, I liberally apply Herbivore Botanicals Coco Rose Lip Conditioner. I’ve used this product as a cuticle balm in a pinch while traveling, too.

Hair

I’m super into oils for pretty much everything right now, especially my hair. It took a while for me to find one that wasn’t too heavy, since my hair is really fine. A lot of the ones I’ve tried end up making me look greasy and weighted down my hair. This is a recent discovery of mine, but Davines Oi Oil* is incredible. It smells great and works wonders… and doesn’t make my hair look greasy ever. I apply two pumps to my ends before I style it with my other hair products. And I’ll even apply some to my ends in between washes if they look dry! I cannot recommend this oil enough… and I think you can use it on your skin as well.
