Try These Fabric Dye Projects For a Twist on Tie Dye
Easy DIY Fabric Dye Project #1: Ice Dye
Believe it or not, I was one of the first bloggers to share a tutorial about how to ice dye! Basically, ice dyeing is when you put ice over prepared fabric, then sprinkle dye powder on it. As the ice melts, it draws the dye into the fabric! It’s a really fun way to get the look of tie dye, but with a different method. I’ve used this technique a few different ways and I love how each piece comes out totally unique.

Also, don’t be afraid to layer techniques! For this table runner DIY, we ice dyed the fabric with two colors, then block printed metallic over it. I love the layered look!

Easy DIY Fabric Dye Project #2: Shibori Dye
Shibori dyeing is one of my favorite ways to breathe new life into old, white textiles, for example this bath mat DIY we shared. If you haven’t heard of it, Japanese indigo dye process that is traditionally done in blue and white. The folding process ensures white parts that remain undyed. The result is majorly beautiful!

Easy DIY Fabric Dye Project #3: Dip Dye
I actually think that dip dyeing is the easiest way to dye any sort of textile! Literally, make a batch of liquid dye and dip as much of the fabric into it as you want for as long as you want. You can dip dye stripes in varying intensities of color or stick to a single hue. It’s awesome and so easy! In the past, we’ve dip dyed pouches for DIY bath salts… or tassels for a DIY picnic blanket!

You can also dip dye stationery!

Easy DIY Fabric Dye Project #4: Overdye
And lastly, overdyeing is another super-easy fabric dye technique to try. Basically, mix up a batch of liquid dye and then use it to color whatever you have on hand. I love doing this technique on t-shirts or textiles that already have a bit of pattern to them. The dye color will tint the existing colors and make a really fun and unique new item. Check out the step-by-step instructions to overdye napkins.

So those are a few of my favorite easy DIY fabric dye projects! I swear, they are so easy. And if you end up making any of these projects, be sure to post a photo to Instagram and tag me! I love seeing all of your takes on our DIY projects.
