A major part of why I’ve loved working with Better Homes & Gardens exclusively at Walmart this past year has been challenging myself to breathe new life into spaces while also maintaining our budget. I’m often blown away by how chic the pieces in the Live Better collection are and how affordable they can be. It means I can transform a space so easily! So when Better Homes & Gardens and Walmart challenged me to update a space in my signature style this month, I jumped at the chance. Even though our cabin bedroom suite is still under renovation, we moved into it about a month ago… and it’s desperately needed attention. Here’s how I refreshed our in-progress bedroom on a budget!

Our $300 Cabin Bedroom Refresh for Spring
Tons of decorative pillows
If you’re new to my blog, you may not know this… I used to be a textile designer and have designed SO many pillows in the past. Because of that, I’ve always loved combining different throw pillows into a cohesive design statement. For our bedroom, I chose a lot of pillows because I just love them so much… and because I’m always changing my mind and re-styling the grouping on our bed!

When it comes to pillows, I’m all about texture and different patterns. Plaid pillows feel like a no-brainer for a cabin bedroom, while peachy pink is the perfect pop against our deep green walls. Velvet is always a good idea, so naturally I gravitated toward this floral inspired velvet burnout pillow. It’s soooo pretty in the light! And in case I decide to swap pillows around, I also have these grey fringed pillows and chunky woven pillow on hand. I keep them in a wire basket so they’re easily accessed whenever I want.

Mix and match bedding
While my love of all white bedding is deep, I love mixing and matching even more! For this bedroom refresh, I kept it classic with white 300 thread count sateen sheets, then added soft silver sateen pillow cases to give depth. Then, I added some texture with these gorgeous eyelet euro shams — the texture on them is soooo good in person.

Decorative accents and details
Lighting plays a huge role in a bedroom… too bright and it can feel surgical. Too dark and I wouldn’t be able to find my slippers! I selected small tear drop lamps for our nightstands and paired them with handsome tweed tapered drum lamp shades. The smaller footprint of the lamp helps to open up more nightstand space, aka more room for books!

Sean’s side of the bed has two windows, so I gathered plants there to bring some life to the space. If you’re looking for affordable planters, I have to recommend the assortment from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart — I am consistently wowed by the quality and price! I also grouped some tiny succulents on the windowsill on a metal tray so they are easier to move when we close the blinds. And lastly, this retro fan is the cutest, most necessary addition! It’s so cute, I already know I want a few more for other rooms in the cabin.

Special little touches
You know me… I’m all about the special touches when it comes to decorating a space. Diamond, our puppy, sleeps on my side of the bed every night, so I got her a cute plaid floor pillow to sleep on. Also on that side of the bed is my ultimate bedroom must-have: a bouquet of fresh flowers! I always keep flowers in our bedroom. This bouquet was foraged from our property and looks so good in the luster glass vase, don’t you think?
Scent is another bedroom staple in my opinion and my love of this soft cashmere & amber candle is STRONG. It’s literally exactly what I want our space to smell like! Before bed while I’m brushing my teeth, I light the candle and place it on a wooden tray at the foot of our bed as part of my wind down ritual. Don’t worry, we extinguish the flame before tucking in!
