Monthly Life Update, May 2021

I find it really funny that this time last year it felt like time was slowwwwly dragging along, whereas now, in 2021, May was literally a blip on my radar. In between renovating the cabin, gearing up for summer, Sean’s birthday, and starting to welcome our first house guests, May was very full for us. Here’s a bit more about what’s been going on behind-the-scenes!

The cabin

The cabin is pretty much always under a constant stream of renovations: our bedroom suite (still), the guest room (nearly complete and hopefully posting to the blog in the next couple of weeks), the gear room (barely even started), and my vegetable garden (at a total stand still). And yet, I’m forever dreaming up new project to improve the overall feel (and smell!!!!) of the cabin. Specifically, I’ve recently mentally designed an entire guest bathroom makeover. Totally normal and not at all nuts given how much other work we have to do!

The weather out here is definitely improving and it’s feeling more and more summery every day. As I sit and type this, I’m out on our patio in the shade and it’s 80 already today! I can’t wait to see what fun summer brings us, especially because we have (vaccinated) house guests coming to visit. My cousin Celine came to visit for a couple of weeks and it was awesome playing tour guide at the National Park down the road from us.

The tiny zoo

Noodle and Diamond are doing just fine and adjusting to life as just a pair now. We’re still very much grieving the lost of Lucy and still can’t quite believe it. Georgette is Georgette… perpetually loafed out in a sunny spot and cranky when disturbed. As for the chickens, my 29 new babies are getting huge! They’re turning out to be so beautiful and I’m starting to suspect a few are roosters, so we’ll see how that all shakes out.

My health

Knock on wood, my health has been fine! Life out here has essentially forced me to give up some habits such as ordering take out and being more sedentary, so I’ve lost a bit of weight without really trying to. I walk a ton more, haul stuff like chicken feed all damn day, plus there’s so much more physical labor with the renovations and yardwork. Because of that, I’m feeling better about my body and even a bit more comfortable in my own skin.

Business + my blog

As for my business, things are going really well! I’m working with some really wonderful brand partners and creating content for them (and just in general) that I’m excited about. I’m doing some behind-the-scenes stuff to make my blog even better for you including a site refresh launching shortly! I also launched my private mentoring program for small businesses which feels like a HUGE victory. This is something I’ve wanted to do for so long. After every session with my current mentees, I leave the conversation with a literal high. I’m such an over-sharer of information that I find it incredibly gratifying and inspiring to share everything i’ve learned from the past 12 years of blogging.

So that’s a snapshot of what life’s been like for us lately! As always, thank you so much for following along on our journey and being so wonderfully supportive of everything I share here and on social media.
