9 Things of Note in September 2019

Wow, what a month September was for me. From the wedding to my expected surgery, I can’t believe how much LIFE happened in just that span of time. While writing this post, I can definitely see where each of these items came into play at different points in the month. Let’s dig into my favorite products from the month, including the my latest obsession: a Lack of Color hat!

Joanna’s Things of Note from September 2019 (including Lack of Color, Burt’s Bees, & more)

As always, please note that a few of these items have been gifted to me. I have indicated that with an asterisk * next to the name of the product. As usual though, I am only sharing what I have absolutely loved and would spend ‘real money’ on regardless.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Gahhh, this book!! I could not put it down. The main character, Eleanor, is heartbreakingly detached from reality and, over the course of the novel, reveals why. It’s a really sad book, but one that actually gives you hope about living life to it’s fullest. I definitely consider this a must-read and feel like all of it’s accolades are well-deserved.

Lack of Colors Zulu Rancher Hat

Yet another OBSESSION. I’ve been wanting a wool brimmed hat for the longest time and finally picked up this one from my friend’s boutique here in Seattle. I have a really big head and this one actually fits! Plus, I love the color. It goes with everything and helps me conceal the fact that I haven’t washed my hair in days.

Mitzi Aged Brass LED Accent Table Lamp*

Another thing that happened last month? I gave up my studio space to save money. So now my desk is in the living room (more on that to come) and I needed a desk lamp. I chose this modern, architectural lamp and I’m obsessed with it. I didn’t realize that it dimmed when I ordered it, but it does… which is so perfect for ambient lighting in the living room when I’m through working for the day.

Dr. Jart+ V7 Priming Moisturizer*

I used this product as a moisturizer leading up to the wedding, then used it as a primer on the day of. I’m fully convinced it helped my makeup last longer AND it always makes my skin sooo smooth and soft. Plus, I haven’t noticed it clogging my pores at all.

Sabbath: Finding Rest, Renewal, and Delight in Our Busy Lives by Wayne Muller

My coach recommended this as the first book I read after getting out of the hospital when I realized I really needed to make some life changes. I blew through it in 2 days, it was that good and that inspiring. I will admit, I am very sensitive to religious overtones and this book has a lot of them. But as I was reading I swapped ‘prayer’ for ‘meditation’ and it helped me a lot. The message of the book wasn’t lost on me with this small mental shift, so I highly recommend it, even if you’re not religious, too.

Carve Designs Rockvale Sweater

I actually picked up this sweater unexpectedly the day after our wedding. It is SO soft and the easiest thing to toss on over leggings. I’ve been living in it since I got home from the hospital.

L.L. Bean Boat & Tote

This boat & tote isn’t exactly a new product and it’s definitely not new to me, but given just how much I used it last month, I couldn’t help but include it in this round up. Between schlepping for the wedding and Sean hauling stuff to the hospital, this tote carries it ALL.

Abode Candle, Cannabis scent*

You guys, this candle smells sooooo good. Ignoring the name (if you’re a square, jk), it seriously makes our home smell incredible. It has notes of lavender, sandalwood, bergamot, and lemon. Plus, it’s made with CBD oil and without any nasty ingredients. I encourage you to check out this new candle line and support a small business.

Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick in Niagara Nude

My wedding makeup artist, Kendra Springer, uses only clean beauty products. She used this liquid lipstick on me for the wedding and I absolutely looooved it. The nude shade is totally perfect and it is such a comfortable lip color to wear.

So these are my 9 fave products from September! If you have any tips or requests for October, let me know.
